TIH2012 - File backup stalls running in Parallels Windows 7 64 bit Virtual Machine
Running TIH 2012 trial on iMac with 4Gb ram, i7 processor, Parallels 6, Windows 7 64 bit.
Virtual machine running TIH is 2Gb ram + 4 processors, attempting file incremental backup.
TIH 2012 stalls on first full backup with a small number of files. Either with less than 2 minutes to go when progress bar is at 30% or when 'calculating time remaining' is displayed when progress bar is at 5%.
Questions - is TIH2012 compatible with Parallels virtualisation if so what further diagnostic info would be helpful for problem resolution

What happens if you try sector by sector imaging of the VM?
I know TIH is not able to image an actual Mac drive unless it is sector by sector, not so sure about the VM side of things though. It can image VM's but I've only tried that in Windows based VM's.

John,
Are you positive ATI hangs? The progress bar and time estimates can be *widely* out of whack.

Colin / Pat,
Thanks for your replies, I'm pretty sure that a sector by sector image works - but that isn't what I want to do, I don't expect ATI / THI to be able to restore an entire virtual machine image, if I can't restore it there is no point backing it up just to generate a false sense of security. I am looking to create an incremental backup of data files so that I can either do selective restore of individual files of small groups of files. In the event of a catastrophic failure I can recreate the virtual machine, reload my applications and restore the data - which takes about a day.
Now for the surprising (for me) bit, I'd created a schedule for the incremental I was planning that was due to execute @ 20:00 on Wednesday evening but I'd been testing and having problems with the 'do it now' option. This morning I find the scheduled incremental had worked just fine and I'm able to restore from the backup created.
So it seems the problem solved itself, many thanks for your assistance.
John
