Transfer disk image to new disk

Thread needs solution

My current internal hard drive is getting flaky. I bought Acronis True Image Home 2011 with the intent of creating a disk image of my current hard drive onto an external USB drive and then restoring that image to a new replacement internal hard drive.

I have followed the instructions (I think) for prepaing a Disk Partition backup to the USB drive and then recovering that backup to the new internal hard drive. However, when I try to boot from the new internal hard drive, I get a message that a bootable drive is not available.

Does anyone have any idea about what could be wrong? If a step-by-step description of the process is available, it would helpful. The directions in the Acronis users manual are a little confusing.

A few questions to clairfy your situation...
1. Did you check inside the Bios to make sure the correct drive was selected as the boot drive?
2. What operatiing system?
3. Did your backup include all the partitions on the disk
4. Did you perform the restore when booted from the Rescue CD?
5. When restoring, did you checkmark the disk to be restored; or
did you restore each partition individually?
5a. If individually, did your also restore the MBR/track0 plus did you checkmark the REcover the Disk Signature?
6. How many partitions on your old disk? Is this how many you restored?
7. Is the new disk larger than the old?
8. Is this a IBM or Lenova Laptop?
