Transferring files

Thread needs solution

I set up my daughter's laptop with Acronis True Image 2012. Every few days Acronis does a file backup of her critical files to a flash drive she keeps plugged into her computer.

Today her computer failed. I would like to move her files over to my computer so that I can extract certain files for her. My computer has Acronis True Image 2011.

I can physically move the 3 .tib files from her flash drive to my computer. How do I open them and extract files for her?

2012-made archives are not necessarily supported in 2011, but you can try to just double-click on them on your other computer and copy/past the files out of it. You can also try to restore the files from ATI 2011. If this doesn't work, you can download the latest 2012 bootable ISO from your Acronis account, burn it *as an ISO* to a CD, boot your computer on the CD and restore the files this way.

As a rule of thumb, if you use multiple versions of ati like I do (I run 4 diff versions) keep the lastest bootCD on hand. The backwards compatibility is very good. Forward compatibility is almost nil.
