Trouble creating a USB bootup stick

Thread needs solution

I've tried creating a boot up USB stick
It never works

I always have to resort to a blank CD or DVD
I always end up losing the disc!! And have to burn again and again and again and again!

Thanks

Omar

Wow, so much information. ;)

If you want help, you'd better describe what you've tried so far.

It's simple to create a bootable USB flash drive of the Acronis True Image bootable Recovery Media (Rescue Media). It's an option within ATI when choosing to create Recovery Media.

You must be using a flash drive not a USB connected hard disk. If you are having trouble creating USB media, you can use the Windows command line utility "diskpart" to clean, create a partititon, format the partition, make it active, and assign a drive letter to the flash drive before using it in Acronis.

If using a usb stick.
1. Insert the usb stick into a connector located directly on the computer (not a hub).
2. Open Create Media Builder and complete the options of selecting what is to be included inside the stick.
3. Select the usb stick as its destination. (Note: usb stick will lose any existing contents.)
4. Click proceed.

If using a blank CD-R.
1. 2. Open Create Media Builder and complete the options of selecting what is to be included inside the CD.
3. Select the CD/DVD device as its destination.
4. If desktop, insert blank CD and leave tray open. Program will close the tray.
4. If using a Laptop, to not close the tray until just prior to clicking the PROCEED option.

ok... this is what i've tried: create a bootable media through acronis
@james: that's great info (which i never knew about)... but all i do is what @tuttle and @groverh where suggesting...
which is to simply use the menu options form acronis
it's never ever worked for me :(
the steps aren't rocket science

i boot up
press f12
select usb to boot off (i think thats what the options called)
and then... nothing!
it just damn boots into the normal OS

hmmm...
question: can i burn the iso to the usb stick??
maybe that might do the trick?
maybe use @tuttle's suggested approach and then burn the iso or at least copy the files across?

Have you ever been able to boot from any USB flash drive? Perhaps that's the issue. Try changing your BIOS settings to put USB boot ahead of HD boot.

In Windows 7, you don't need any third-party software. Right-click the .iso and select "Burn disc image".

i don't know! i've never had to boot up from a usb stick before
the steps u mention is what i do after pressing f12 - put the boot off usb option at the top
never had any luck

really??
i still live in vista world
i'm going to upgrade to windows 8
one of the programs that is not compatible i have (and absolutely can't live without) is imgburn - i use it to burn discs and images
are u saying that i can burn images using windows 7 (and therefore 8)?

how about burning files?
ok... so u can burn files in vista - i've never had any luck and found the windows interface a bit rubbish
so i have always used imgburn

i like imgburn - but would love to ditch it and have one thing less installed

let me know

thanks

That's what I wrote.

Imgburn works fine in Windows 8 (including 64 bit editions). Be sure you are using the latest version. I use it almost daily in Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.

well the windows install message said the version for windows 8 was a paid version and not a free one - i don't think i was clear in what i said

why do u choose to use imgburn and not the windows 8 system of burning discs?
i'd be interested to know

thanks

Imgburn is much more flexible. It is, and always has been, donation supported, not a purchased (paid version) program.

@james, thanks for clearing up
i like it because its lightweight
i haven't donated before, but will be happy to do so

Yes, in my opinion as well, ImgBurn is a great little product and I like it due the fact that it does MUCH MORE than just burn images. It works in both directions and you can copy files from the CD onto your hard drive, etc. Win 7 and Win 8 are late comers to the party.
