True Image 10 won't open True Image 2009 tib files?

Thread needs solution

I have different independently licensed versions of ATI on m two computers. I wanted to access an ATI 2009 backup on my second computer whilst my first computer was away for repair. I'm getting an error message: is it because ATI 10 isn't forward compatible? Is there any workaround, please? John

TI 10 won't be able to read 2009 or 2010 images.

Whether 2009 and 2010 can read TI 10 images is doubtful.

Hello J E G KEMP,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

You may download free trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 from our web site and use it to access backup created with Acronis True Image Home 2009.

Whether 2009 and 2010 can read TI 10 images is doubtful.

I don't think that's what you meant... (I hope :)

I took True Image 10 to mean the version before True Image 11, in which case it is very unlikely that 2009 and 2010 will be able to read TI10 images.

Or have I missed something?  It is possible that I'm not quite on the right wavelength.

Many thanks, Dmitry. I have considered your suggestion carefully. I have ATI 10 on my laptop, and ATI 2009 on my desktop. I want to end up with the same two versions on both computers with least hassle or expense, so I can explore either backup on either computer. If I took up your suggestion I'd have to upgrade BOTH computers to ATI 2010. (I think I've seen on the forums somewhere that it's difficult to revert to an earlier version if one decides against an upgrade, having tried the free trial)
What I'm going to do is buy a boxed version of ATI 2009 from a reseller while it's still available - and discounted as the old build - and upgrade my laptop to ATI 2009. This isn't what Acronis want me to do, but readers of the forum may be interested in my solution! - Best wishes - John

SURELY All versions of ATI are backward compatible in handling archives generated by earlier versions? The HAVE to be! - Dmitry - have you a comment here? (The problem I had was a lack of forward compatibility) -  John

I have used ATI 2009 to restore a ATI 10 backup.

ATI 10 will not restore a ATI 2009 backup.

Hello all,

Acronis guarantees one-version-back compatibility for different versions of the same product. This means that current product version will work with backups created with one-generation-older version.

E.g. Acronis True Image Home 2009 will work with backups created by Acronis True Image 11 Home. Restoring backups created by older versions (Acronis True Image 10.0 Home and older) is also possible, but error-free data recovery is not guaranteed.

I have used ATI 2009 to restore a ATI 10 backup.

ATI 10 will not restore a ATI 2009 backup.

That's correct. Despite several cases when our customers were able to recover in such situation, generally it should not be possible.

Thank you.

The reality is that TI is very good at handling images created by previous versions older than just the previous one (don't know about 2010).
