True Image 11 Doesnt restore - vista
Hi guys, my first time on the forum, hopefully you can help me.
I have true image 11 home and have previously made a backup of the entire C drive of my dads pc. The image file validates but when I go to restore it, it just doesnt restore.
The pc (Dell Studio) restarts,
gets to the starting acronis loader... page
gets to the blue screen and the two progress bars appear on the screen
then the screen just goes black again and the pc starts like normal after a few seconds.
The image file size is just over 29gb. the hard drive has no errors on it according to windows chkdsk, the c drive has been formatted and a fresh version of vista has been installed, the partition is now bigger than it used to be at 255gb (used to be 234gb ...ish)
I cant seem to get it to work.
I use true image on my own pc and usually have trouble restoring unless I decrease the size of the partition beforehand and increase it back via trueimage in the restore options, but this still isnt working.
Can anyone give me a hand? I really dont want to have to go through and install all the programs a setting again, I have the file waiting there, it just wont go through with it.

Michael:
You have correctly diagnosed the problem. When TI reboots the PC to restore an image, it is using the same recovery environment (Linux) as it uses on the bootable CD. Apparently the SATA drivers needed for your Dad's PC are not included with the recovery environment. Here are a few suggestions:
1. Look in the BIOS setup menus on the PC to see if you can find something called "IDE Compatibility Mode" or similar wording. Change to compatibility mode and the SATA disk will be seen as a standard IDE disk to programs. Then try the bootable CD again. If it can now see the disk you can proceed with the restore.
2. Log into your account on the Acronis web site and look at your "Registered Products" to find TI 11 in the list. See if there is a Bootable ISO file offered for download. If so, create another boot CD from this ISO, which has more up-to-date drivers included.
3. Contact Acronis via Live Chat on their web site to see if they can provide an ISO that includes drivers for your PC.

Mark,
There is no bootable .ISO file shown for True Image 11. That apparantly started with True Image 2009.

Thanks, Bruce. There isn't one for TI version 10 either, but there is one for Disk Director version 10.

Thanks to everyone and especially to KOLO, After what seemed like hours I finally found the link to the live chat support (that really should be made more obvious) and they did indeed give me a link to an updated iso file for the bootable disk and it worked!! Im so relieved! I've been struggling with this for about a week now and its a great weight off my mind.
Thanks so much
Michael
