True Image 11 hangs at 23 minutes remaining

Thread needs solution

I have a Window XP pc and try to restore from an image on an external USB hard disk. When it gets to 23 minutes remaining, it just sits there doing nothing - overnight in my last attempt. When I reboot, obviously the pc operating system no longer exists, so I have reinstalled windows several times now. Also run chkdsk /r - no problems. Also verified the backup archive on another pc - all ok. I have been restoring images for years now without any problems - what could have gone wrong. I have tried using the CD I got when I bought the product. I have also tried installing it and running it locally. I have tried sector by sector restore to no avail. I am getting sick of reinstalling windows. HELP!!! I'm starting to think there will be no solution and will just have to get XP up to date and then try to access individual files/folders in the archive. I have read that copying the image to a different partition might work but I don't have enough space on the hard drive to create a partition large enough to hold the .tib file.

Gave up on trying to restore complete archive and reinstalled all XP updates. Hopefully I'll be able to mount the archive and get his documents, email folders etc from it. Not a happy customer.

Does it stop at about the same point each time? If the disk is okay then it's worth a try to run memtest overnight to see if some weak spot is memory is tripping things up.

If that doesn't give you a diagnosis, as workaround you might try restoring the hdisk with it installed on a diff machine and then installing it back on the original machne. IF that works, then you know it's definitely machine related.

I was able to mount the image to retrieve mail folders, contact etc. Not in a position to open up cases and remove hard drives unfortunately - that would be going too far. Got it all reinstalled and did a new image yesterday. There is definitely something wrong with the pc as I had to restore the new image not long after (another crash) - that worked fine. Looking for new computer or hard drive.
