True Image 11 Home will not recognize external USB drive

Thread needs solution

I am using a HP Vista Home Premium desktop with s/2, have installed TI 11 Home, build 8101. Have installed the program update from the Acronis site. Image has been created on an external USB drive. When using the boot disk, the USB drive is not recognized. I also downloaded the bootable ISO image from the Acronis website but that did not detect the USB drive either. Also verified that USB is enabled in the bios. Is there another boot disk file available that allows for detection of an external USB drive?

Both of those boot disks use a form of Linux to run and they do not have the drivers needed to detect the chipset of the USB enclosure. I'm surprised the CD made from the downloaded ISO didn't work though. The alternative is to make a BartPE CD in which the True Image plug in is embedded.

To get this plug in you have to do a custom instal of TI 11 and you will be given the chance to select what Acronis calls the BartPE plug in. It should really be called PlugIn For BartPE, but anyway, that's how you get the Plug In. Then the next step is to go to the BartPE website to see how to add plug ins when making the BartPE cd.

It recognises my external USB drive, provided that the drive is switched on before I boot from the CD (either the one I made from TI 11, or from the iso file).

Thanks for the quick replies. I have made sure to have the external drive on before booting from the CD. Will give the BartPE option a try. Before making this initial post, I noticed in another similar forum issue that a boot image file has been provided on request that is not available on the Acronis site. Seems like that would be the best option if a different file with USB support is available.

Had no success with BartPE. It requires the Windows installation files; my PC has Vista preinstalled and I have no o/s CD. Did a search of the entire hard drive just to be sure, but no files were found. According to the BartPE website, Vista is not included on list. Also retried the bootable disk made from the ISO on the Acronis site, noticed several startup options. Tried option 1 for a regular Acronis startup and the external USB drive is still not seen. Tried option 2 but the startup process halted before loading the Acronis program. Other options appeared to be specifically for no USB support. Any further ideals would be most welcome.

Hello all!

Thank you for opening the thread regarding the issue and for your comments! I completely share your concern and will be glad to assist you.

Dear fisherman, could you please kindly specify whether you have tried

  • booting with the 3 parameter when used the CD based on *iso downloaded from the website
  • switching USB Support legacy

I would appreciate if you could kindly try it and let us know the results.

Should the issue persist, we will need some additional information for successful investigation. Could you please kindly provide us with the following?

  1. The exact model of your USB drive
  2. Acronis Linux Report from the CD you are using
  3. Boot with the 2 parameter and enter the sysinfo command. Send us the output.

Please contact us with this informaiton - it is required for identification of the problem's cause, and will help us to build an *iso suitable for your environment.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

For Vista use WinPE instead of BartPE.
