True Image 11- Will not recognize WD 4TB "MyBook" when computer (Vista) booted from rescue boot disk.
Seems that when Acronis True Image Home11 boots outside of Windows environment- either via the emergency rescue CD or from it's internal reboot protocol- it will not detect the WD 4TB drive. No problems if it is running under internal Windows Op Sys environment.
Recently I installed a Western Digital 4TB "MyBook" external drive strictly for back up archiving my machines. My HP Vista machine sees and reads/writes to and from the WD drive without any issues. Recently, the HD in the machine crashed and I had to reformat & restore the internal drive from the backup volumes. I have used Acronis TrueImage Home11 for years without any difficulties whatsoever and I love the product, interface and functions!
When I booted from the emergency rescue boot disk, the program will NOT recognize the WD 4TB drive. I even created a new copy of the rescue disk, uninstalled and reinstalled the full ATI11 program and created yet another rescue disk- all with the same resulting problem!
I was able to find and restore a very old back up copy from a different WD 1.5TB external drive without problems. Once restored, I rebooted the machine from that old reinstalled backup. It worked fine (except the data was outdated) and I tried to overlay/recover it with the newer version sitting on the WD 4TB drive...
When running AHI11 from the newly recovered drive, I was able to see the WD 4TB drive without problems and able to explore the backed up volumes with the restore wizard. Since I requested the erase and restoration of the ENTIRE internal drive- including the op sys, ATI11 had to reboot, load the non Windows operating system, and again it would not recognize the 4TB drive.
Seems that when Acronis TI11 boots outside of Windows environment- either via the emergency rescue CD or from it's internal reboot protocol- it will not detect the WD 4TB drive. No problems if it is running under internal Windows Op Sys environment.
I want to use the 4TB drive for dedicated backups but need Acronis TI11 to recognize the drive when booted under rescue CD control. Help would be much appreciated!
(What I ended up having to do for a work around is to copy the back up copies from the WD 4TB external drive onto a spare 1.5TB external drive via USB2 cables (it took 13 hours to copy them all- 1full and 6 incremental saves) and then it took another 9 hours to recover those files from the 1.5TB drive to the computer)
HELP!!
