True Image 13 Startup Recovery Manager Question
I am planning to install win8 under UEFI mode. Will the startup manager still work? I knew its not working under GPT partition for 2012 version.

I own a HP 2143w with UEFI and the recovery manager enabled. The recovey manger fails even from a USB flash drive.

John,
You need to change UEFI to legacy mode in the BIOS, the CD will then probably boot. Obviously the BIOS setting has to be switched back when wanting to run Windows.

I found when switching to BIOS legacy mode, I could boot with the ATI 2013 disk, but then it would not mount the C: drive. In this state, the C: drive could not be selected for backup - it did not even show up on the list of selectable drives. Other drives were available.
If BIOS is set to secure UEFI mode, then the CD would not boot, regardless of how the Boot-order was set in BIOS.
In other words, in Legacy mode, the C: drive was unavailable, even if Secure Boot was disabled, and in UEFI mode, the CD would not boot.
Machine:
Dell 15Z
Windows 8
ATI 2013 - Current version
Downloaded ATIH2013_5551_en-US.exe for bootable image.
Setting the BIOS for CD boot was a bit convoluted and I wrote a short article on how to do this on the Dell Intel Motherboard:

Additional comments to this post would be welcome.

Traywolf,
There is a hot fix here on the forums that provides the ability to boot to the newly created Rescue Media without turning off Secure Boot.
See: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/39714
After installing this hotfix, you must create new bootable media for the new boot loader to be include in the Rescue Media.
In addition, if you have Startup Recovery Manager activated, de-activate it and re-activate it after applying the hotfix.

Amazing reply to my question the other night at midnight. 12 seconds after my post!
The next day I applied the hotfix and re-spun the recovery CD. The boot worked properly, thank you.
But the recovery CD cannot see the C: drive.
What I like to do with Acronis ATIH is boot with the recovery disk, and then run the backup.
When I do this, only my external USB drive appears and I cannot select the local disk as a source-drive.
Am I missing something?
Thanks.

Traywolf,
The Acronis Rescue Media is Linux based, and contains drivers for many hard disk controllers but not all. This could be an issue with driver support for your chipset/controller on the Linux based Rescue Media. You can not update the Rescue Media drivers (this can only be done by Acronis).
I would suggest that you reach out to Acronis Support and have them investigate this issue. Since this is a "recovery" issue as well, there is no charge for this type of support. I would approach the issue from a "recovery" standpoint, since if you can not "see" your internal hard disk, you would not be able to restore/recover using the bootable Rescue Media. You can contact support here: http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html
In the meantime, please provide some specifics about your hardware. Manufacturer, model number, installed hardware, etc.

I will call support. In the mean time, here are the details:
Dell 15Z Ultrabook (this is not the XPS 15Z)
Intel i5 1.7G
Device Manager reports
Disk Drive: Intel XW 163C825888 version 6.2.92.16384 (Microsoft)
Intel HM77 Express Chipset LPC Controller - 1E57 1/11/2012 ver 9.3.0.1020
Intel Mobile Express SATA controller 7/9/2012 ver 11.5.0.1207
Unsure of the motherboard until next reboot.
I believe it is an AMI BIOS, version A00
