True Image 2010 Build 7046

Thread needs solution

After using several versions of Acronis True Image over several years, I have come to trust only full backups. Therefore, I have my full backups configured to overwrite the previous backup. Acronis did this without a glitch until I updated to build 7046. Now the backups no longer overwrite the previous backup. Instead, Acronis creates Full Backup 2, 3, etc. Does this mean that now I can't even trust Acronis's full backup option? Is it time to finally look for an alternative?
If all Acronis's features worked without issues, it would be one great program, but the glitches are enough to frustrate a Buddhist Monk.

A very nice alternative is to use Chain2Gen as a helper program for TrueImage. Check my signature below. It can help you to manage the number of backups you wish to retain and to help you get full backups only when wanted. Check item 3A and 3B inside my signature index.

To correct the Full Backups not overwriting the old backups issue, I had to delete the full backup tasks I created before updating to 7046 and create new tasks.

That seems to be a common problem with Tasks ... they have to be re-created if you move to a new version .... or even a new build

Recreating ATI tasks is simpler than having to resort to batch files, imo, and is worth trying first. MRecreting tasks is essentially a repair while resort to batch files is a permanent workaround.

Btw, if you are keeping only one backup, note that it is advisable to keep more than one, for at least a couple of reasons.

If your computer went wonky but you didn't notice it before you makde your last backup, then the wonk will be inthe backup too. so it's helpful to be able to reach farther back in time to an older backup.

Only one byte has to become corrupted in a backup file for the file to corrupt -- you can still copy files out in some cases but you can't do a full resotre. so you improve your odds if you have more than one backup on hand.
