True Image 2011 - Credentials for backup to Homegroup computer

Thread needs solution

Hi,
GOAL: I want to setup a backup on a Homegroup computer in my home network.

SETUP: I'm using True Image 2011 on a Windows 7 Pro laptop (64-bits). I am using the latest version of True Image as of March 20, 2011. I have joined a homegroup with a Windows 7 Pro desktop (32-bit). I am able to navigate the files on the desktop from my laptop without problem i.e. I have setup the homegroup correctly.

PROBLEM: When trying to save the backup to the Homegroup desktop computer, or trying to "browse for backup", I am being asked for authentication settings. The following haven't worked (I get "Connection failed"):
(1) The Windows 7 user name and password I use to log onto my laptop (user is an admin).
(2) Same as above, but after creating another account on my desktop computer with the same user name and password as I use on my laptop
(3) The Windows 7 user name and password I use to log onto my desktop computer (user is also an admin)
(4) The network computer name of my laptop as a user name, and my homegroup password as password. I've tried the user name in either the form COMPUTER-NAME or COMPUTER-NAME\HomeGroupUser$

Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Try the following:

- as you choose the destination, in the left navigation panel, unfold the network, when the target computer appears, click on it, enter the credentials at that point,
- enter the credentials as computername\username, username and password are the ones of the account on the target computer.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it still didn't work (still get "connection failed"). Any other suggestions?
Cheers,
Francois

In the Network and Sharing Center, Change Advanced Settings, Scroll down to the options, choose "user accounts and passwords" for homegroup connections.

If this doesn't work, leave the homegroup and share the folder manually to see if the problem subsists.
