True Image 2012 Activation

Thread needs solution

Why doesn't a too many activations error occur when reactivating True Image 2012 on the same PC even after a complete disk wipe with Acronis Disk Cleanser from the True Image Boot Disk. Does this error only occur if I open up the computer and change one of the hardware components? Does a reactivation do a compare of the computer's hardware with the activation database?

My guess is the program on the machine records certain hardware identifiers and tolerates only a certain amount of changes within a certain time period -- much the way windows activation works. This would all be done on the machine without sending any info about your machine over the net. Any action over the net would probably be sending the "Hardware ID check OK" flag and the serial nubmer to verify that the serial is a valid and not blacklisted.
