True Image 2013 - Diff Backup broken after updating to Windows 8.1

Thread needs solution

The version of True Image I am running is: True Image 2013, Build: 6514

I have had a Daily Differential Backup running for many months now, configured as:
- create a full version after ever 6 differential versions
- store no more than 4 recent version chains

This configuration properly created one full backup and 6 smaller diffs every week, for a period of 4 weeks.

I upgraded Windows to 8.1 from Windows 8 on Thursday, two days ago. The backup on Thursday morning had created the next full backup prior to the Windows 8.1 update (named *full_b14_s1_v1, 503G). The backup on Friday morning created another backup of almost the same size (named *diff_b14_s2_v1, 494G). I thought this large size was due to the Windows 8.1 update.

But then this morning the backup failed because it ran out of disk space. If it was running properly it would have enough space; however the log messages reveal that it was performing yet another "full" backup (look at the time it takes from start to error message, 1hour and 10 mins):

12 True Image 10/19/2013 4:10:30 AM The disk is full.

All the previous successful differential backups prior to Windows 8.1 complete in several minutes:

10 Information 10/16/2013 3:03:41 AM Writing differential version to file: Daily Differential Backup_diff_b13_s7_v1.tib

12 Information 10/16/2013 3:06:37 AM Pending operation 149 started: 'Saving partition structure'.
13 Information 10/16/2013 3:06:37 AM The following backups have been successfully created: "K:\My backups\Daily Differential Backup_diff_b13_s7_v1.tib"
14 Information 10/16/2013 3:06:37 AM Operation has succeeded.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? This change means that my backup schedule can no longer run, as I don't have enough disk space to store that many full backups. And I do not want to lose all of my previous backups.

Any help would be appreciated.

1. I would create a brand new backup task, backing up to a different folder. See if that works.

2. ATI 2013 does not support Win8.1. In fact, officially even ATI 2014 needs an update (coming) for 8.1.

Sorry for the slow response but I have been away. I wanted to let everyone know that creating a new backup task identical to the first one but using a different directory on the external drive fixed the issue. I disabled and subsequently removed the old task, and the new one has been running without any issues for 1.5 backup cycles (cycle = 1 week).

Thanks for the suggestion!
