True Image 2014 Auto Cleanup not working
Hello,
My scheduled backup failed last night because my external hard drive had no room left. The reason it had no room left is Acronis True Image 2014 auto cleanup option quit working. Why ?
I have it set to "Delete versions older that 4 days" but that is not working.... Why ?
How do I get this to start working again ?
Thanks,
Kent

Does anyone have a solution to the original post's question for this problem? I have had this proble for both TI12 and TI14. The auto cleanup has never worked.
Thanks,
Al

Hello Al,
Auto cleanup works on version chains unless you only create full backup images.
If we use the example shown in the ATIH 2014 User Guide for Backup Schemes which shows creating 5 Incremental backups then a new Full backup and to Delete version chains older than 7 days.
If we assume that this backup scheme will run every day, just once per day.
Then the first version chain will only be complete after it contains 1 Full image & 5 Incremental images which occurs on day 6. On day 7 a new full backup will be created and version chain 1 will be 1 day old.
Version chain 2 is now being built by adding the 5 incremental images, so on day 12, version chain 2 is completed.
Now you have two version chains present and will be starting a 3rd version chain on day 13 with another new Full backup.
So on Day 14, version chain 1 is now over 7 days old and will be deleted.
This is then the pattern that continues with one important caveat. If you edit the backup task settings at any point then the current version chain will be reset and the age of the chain will be counted from the time of the edit!
You need to ensure that you have sufficient space to hold all of the backup images contained in the active version chains that will be stored in order to meet the criteria set for auto cleanup to be executed.
In the example above, this would require that you have space for upto 3 full images plus 10 incremental images.
