True Image 2014 Build 6673 often fails to back up to mounted USB external drive

Thread needs solution

PC tower, Win 7, True Image 2014 Build 6673 fully updated. External USB 3 2.5" drive is attached as "F".

PROBLEM: only half the days (8PM, everyday) does it make an incremental back up. The drive is always mounted, PC not set to sleep.

Notice: "The last backup has failed" "Failed to prepare data stream" "Event code: 0x000B03E9+0x0004000F+0x0004000B+0x0000FFF0+0x80070015.

All drive connections are good. Tried three different USB ports. Have reformatted the drive and set a new schedule, all without resolution of this intermittent failure.

In the morning after seeing the failure, I can manually initiate an incremental backup and it's always successful.
Why is this occurring and what would you do about it ?

Thank you.

If your external drive does not have a permanently assigned drive letter it is suggested that you do so and further assign a letter near the end of those available (X,Y,Z). You should also check your disk properties and make certain that Windows is not set to shutdown the disk to save power. In other words disable turn off of the device.

Yes, I would concur. I believe the issue is a sleep function of either the Computer or the the storage disk.
For example, Western Digital My Passpprt includes a utility to adjust the sleep setting.

Thanks. If one or both of those issues were a problem, one would think the backups would not occur at all.

The drive letter is permanently assigned, and the computer is NOT set to sleep. The failure to back up is random. Trying a new drive might be diagnostic and therapeutic.

Any other thoughts ?

Anyone else having this problem ?

I don't know if this is the issue, but

1. The assigned letter is only applicable on the computer to which assigned the letter, all others will have random lettering.
2. the specific disk must have been attached at time of task creation and will assume the drive letter in existence at task creation time.

3. Does the source disk have usb3 connectors used each backup?

The computer can be set to never sleep, but that doesn't mean that it won't turn off or suspend components after periods of inactivity. Have you checked the settings in the power options highlighted in the screen capture below.

Thanks, Grover. Corresponding to your three points:

1. The drive was assigned a letter on the computer to which it is backing up.
2. This external USB3 drive was attached at the time of task creation on the subject machine.
3. Source disk ? You must mean TARGET disk. The source disk is internal SATA. The target is the USB3 external drive.

Thanks, Joey. Thought I did, but will recheck tomorrow. However, why would backups occur only half the time if these settings were not normal ? The computer is not used for at least two hours before the scheduled 8PM event.

Will recheck those advanced settings tomorrow and post again here. Thank you for the nice png.

My point being,  is the usb3 target disk attached to usb2 ports or usb3 ports on the computer.

Also look in the device manager to make sure there are no exclamation marks in the usb devices.

This is to assure that the usb3 target  disk is compatible with the drivers.

What brand usb3 external disk?
Any chance scan for antivirus or malware is occurring at the same time the Acronis is failing?
