True Image causes Disk Director to fail.
Hi all. I am a new user of Acronis products.
My system is Dell Desktop with 1 Gb Ram memory, WinXP-Home SP3, Pentium 4 @ 2.4 GHz.
I have been running Norton Ghost 10 and Symantec's Partition Magic. I could continue with Ghost but the Partition Magic can only create partitions between 300 and 400 GB, (I like keeping things in the family) and my new external hard drive is 1.5 TBs.
This past week, I purchased and downloaded True Image Home 2010 and Disk Director Suite 10.0. The first program that I installed was Disk Director to create a 500 MB partition on the new external hard drive. It took two attempts to install it properly. It functioned as needed and I was able to create the partition on the new drive.
I then installed True Image. Installation was successful but the program would not run. I clicked on the desktop icon and the mouse pointer went from the arrow to the hourglass. It stayed that way for about a minute and then returned to the arrow. After five minutes, I opened Task Manager to see if the program even loaded and it hadn't. I then "repaired" the installation. The program still would not run.
Using "Revo Uninstaller," I uninstalled both Disk Director and True Image and then re-booted. I then installed True Image without using the serial number. The installation completed and I was able to run the program. I then registered it with the serial number, closed the program and re-ran it. The program opened properly and I set up my backup procedures; full system (Drive C and Drive D) for Sunday nights at 10:00 pm, Drive C at 10:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Drive D at 10:00 pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
All the backups processed properly.
I wanted to remove the 500 MB partition from the external drive so I re-installed Disk Director. It installed properly and I was able to remove the partition and enlarge the drive to absorb the free space, but when I went to run True Image, it once again refused to run. The mouse cursor went from the arrow to the hourglass and back to the arrow and the program would not run. I did a repair to get the program to function and then ran Disk Director. Disk Director came up with an error message as shown in the attachment.
At it stands, I can't have both programs that function on my computer at the same time. I am open to suggestions; any and all are welcome.
Harvey
