True Image Cloning
I am trying to clone a Maxtor 200GB SATA drive with XP Home SP3 to a Seagate 1.5TB SATA drive. True Image fails everytime by saying either source drive partition has errors or destiination is too small, have tried in both automatic and manual mode. CHKDSK and other tools report no errors on source drive and both TI and Windows report new drive as 1.36TB capacity.
I have same symptoms whether BIOS set to Auto or Large in terms of HDD Access mode for new drive.
MOBO is SATA 2/3GB compliant and have tried new drive in both 3 and 1.5 GB modes with no difference

OK thanks, will try but probably wont have chance until the weekend.

Cloning would not work in that config from either Windows or boot disk, exactly the same errors. Tried restoring a full image to the new drive which completed OK, but when trying to boot from disk it reported windows\config.sys was corrupted and said I needed to repair from Windows CD. Would that be expected based on just a drive change?

If you're using TI Home 2010, search the forum for several post with problems using TI and SATA drives. Your problem sounds very similar to mine. TI reported errors, but CHKDSK and other disk diagnostics found no errors.
The undesirable, but sure workaround to this was to uninstall TI Home 2010 and re-install a previous version of TI that worked with SATA drives. For me I dropped back to TI Home 11. Others have reported using TI Home 2009.
Eventially (hopefully) Acronis will fix this. But, if in the meantime you want to clone SATA drives, TI Home 2010 is not an option. Or at least not a reliable option when SATA drives are involved.

OK, should I have restored the MBR with the full image, I am sure I saw posts saying not to. I am using 2009 not 2010 on this PC.
How serious is this TI/SATA issue, does it mean that all my data backups that appear to be OK might actaully fail if I try and restore to a SATA drive.

The technique I described in 7968 was from an internal Seagate SATA to an internal 500GB Seagate SATA using Restore. There is no incompatibility between TIH 2010 6053 and SATA disks, at least not when running a restore using XP SP3. If you're using W7 and 2009, who knows? It might help to read GroverH's tips in his posting.

It is XP SP3 and TI2009, have looked at Grover's tips and have tried both reverse and straight clone in both Windows and from boot disk. I have tried restore image and that seemed to produce a disk that needed repairing.
Not sure what to try next and am reaching the end of my tether with it as is my family who lose the PC for hours while I try again. Am also worried that all my data backups may turn out to be worthless.
Is it too much to expect a piece of software to just work, after all SATA drives have been around a long time, and not have to jump through hoops to get an advertised function to work.
Maybe it's time to go back to Ghost, that always used to work for me, I only moved on because it would not cope with encryption on my company laptop drive.
