True Image does not find any HDD
Hi,
I have problems with my desktop PC and want to restore my System partition "C" with a back up I have done 3 weeks ago.
After having made all the necessary input for this procedure True Image (I am running Ver. 8 built 786) suggests to restart the system which I follow. Reboot is done via the Acronis Loader but afterwards Acronis Truie Image does not find any HDD´s.
How can this program fault be repaired or overcome? What can I do to realize finally my restore?
Thanks for help and kind regards

Yes, you must have installed new HDD's since you purchased TI8. The drivers required to recognise new hardware will most definitely not be known to TI8. I have to agree with Thomas again that a new version of TI will not recognise TI8 tib files.
I really don't know a way around this.

Pater,
Whenever you are restoring your system drive (C:), the restore should be done when booted from the user created TI Rescue CD. Hopefully, you made one and tested it. If not, then create a Rescue CD now from your installed version.
Hopefully. the Rescue CD will see your hard drives but this is really something that should have been checked when TI was first installed.
Let us know how you make out.

"Let us know how you make out."
The bootable rescue disc from TI8 I have, however first no mouse was found, but even continuing with my keyboard no HDD´s where recognized,
consequently via the so called rescue disc no recovery is possible. I do not know how long TI8 is existing, it will be years, but if till today it is not working what is the use of the whole system?
Due to the fact that I still have a rescue disc of TI9, because some month ago I tried TI9, but also this version did not work, if I remember well for the same problem of not finding HDD´s, just for pure desperation I booted with this one and unbelieveably my mouse was found and also all my HDD´s including my external one where I have stored my backups. Finally I could restore my system drive but with a strange combination of various versions of TI´s which I guess nobody would have expected of beeing workeable.
I am very sorry, but at least according to my experience Acronis is not a very useful, recommendable solution of making back ups and once in a while a recovery.

Hello all,
thomasjk, bin and GroverH, thanks for your valuable help.
Peter, we're really sorry for the difficulties you've experienced. Indeed, Acronis True Image 8.0 Home is a very old version of the software, it was released in 2004 and there are a lot of hardware it doesn't support.
I may suggest you the following workaround:
- Boot the computer from Acronis True Image bootable rescue disc (Full version);
- Hit F11 key after the "Starting Acronis Loader..." message appears and you get to the selection screen of the program;
- After you get the "Linux Kernel Settings" prompt, please add "acpi=off noapic" parameter (without quotes) to the end of the Linux kernel command line (so it will be "quiet acpi=off noapic");
- Click OK button.
Please reply to this thread if the issue still persists.
Thank you.

Ilya, thanks for your message.
Shall I boot with the TI8 or TI9 Version?
However if you ask me to boot with TI8 I do not have any mouse available.
The workaround you asked me to do, what does it modify? what is the result?
Thank you

Hello Peter,
Let me answer your questions.
1. Please try to boot off the CD created with Acronis True Image 9. If it won't work for you, please try version 8 and have a look at this KB article to navigate through Wizards without a mouse.
2. As you may know, Acronis Bootable Media is based on Linux. And I've asked you to load it with modified parameters in order to fix the issue:
- acpi=off
Disables ACPI which may help with a particular hardware configuration.
- noapic
Disables APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) which may help with a particular hardware configuration.
-
quiet
This parameter is enabled by default and the startup messages are not displayed. Deleting it will result in the startup messages being displayed as the Linux kernel is loaded and the command shell being offered prior to running the very Acronis program.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Hello Ilya,
I followed your advice first with the boot disc of Acronis TI8. Following the result:
After having inputted next to "quiet" also "acpi=off noapic", (without quotes) following message appeard:
CRC error <6> freeing initrd memory: 7883K freed. Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init=option to Kernel
The system was completely frozen and only with general reset I could restart.
With Acronis TI9 I changed the Linux Kernel settings as above and it seems that the system runs. I did not yet make any back up or recovery, because I still want to know:
- The Linux Kernel settings, starting the bootable CD do not remain. Do I have to make every time I boot with the TI9 CD the same input for the Kernel settings?
- Is it adviceable to make the backup also from the bootable disk or can I make also the backup from Windows?
- restore however always from bootable disk, correct?
Thanks and regards Peter

Hello Peter,
Let me answer your questions.
1. If you'll use a standard bootable media, you have to enter those boot parameters every time you want to boot off. However, I've asked our Linux expert and he'll create a customized bootmedia, I'll upload it to our server and provide you with a download link later this day.
2. It's all up to you in which environment to back up you PC, however, it is recommended to restore created backup archive with a bootable CD.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thank you.

Ilya - I have an HP DC7800 that needs the same line added = quiet acpi=off noapic to get it to run off a bootable USB drive - it fails if I try to restore directly from windows. Using TI 11 b8053.
Is it possible to 'program in' this command to the windows version and is it possible to add this to the bootable usb stick so it does not have to be put in each time ?
You mention a special image, can this be downloaded by eveyone having this problem and can this be used on PC's which do not have the problem ?
Look forward to hearing back from you soon.
Thanks

Hello Ramses,
I'll do my best to help you.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to manually add necessary boot parameters into bootable CD in Acronis True Image 11 Home, this feature were added in the latest 2010 version. However, I've forwarded your request to the responsible person and we'll create a customized CD for you.
But first of all, please register your serial number for Acronis software on our web site in order to be able to download bootable media.
Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.
Thank you.

Ilya - thanks fopr coming back to me.
I actually have my serial number registered already, this is for a client - they are running TI 11 and I run 10. My serial is registered against my other email address which is isissoft@btinternet.com - I lost track of my account and registered this one that I have been asking questions with.
Before I go out and buy him version 2010 - can I check with you that I can definitely enter the additional commands that will be used when he does a restore FROM windows AND when he does a restore using bootable media like a USB stick ?
Thanks for the help - also can I download the image you mentioned for testing before we get the new version once you have checked my serial etc ?
Thanks

Hello Ramses!
Thank you for your comment and clarification, I really appreciate it!
I would like to ensure you that you definitely have an ability to enter acpi=off command in the Acronis True Image Home 2010 bootable media: you can test it yourself with the trial version of the product. It's full functional and has no limitations except:
- 15 days of work
- trial bootable media can restore only
Thus it'll allow you to create a bootable USB stick and test the solution.
However in Windows we'll need to find another solution. You see, our bootable media is based on Linux, thus there are different solutions for Windows and bootable media restoration process.
Let's do the following:
you will test the trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2010, see whether it works for you and ask us all questions you'd like to ask. Meanwhile I will provide you with the updated bootable media of Acronis True Image Home 11 via PM so that you could test whether it helps as well.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!

Yana - thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, it is very important for those of us that support clients remotely that they can restore their PC's from within windows - that way we can hold their hands right up to the point where we press the 'proceed' button, safe in the knowledge that everything has been set right for the restore.
I have downloaded the new boot iso and will test that over the weekend - the new version of 2010 'seems' to have a place where the config line can be added.
Looking at the 'Acronis Startup Recovery Manager' I ma not sure why it is not possible to do the same thing from the Windows Restore as presumably 'Acronis Startup Recovery Manager' is actually a boot selector of some sort ? In which case why can't the linux restore handle the restore process after a Windows Restore request has been made ? Are you saying that there is a seperate application which actually runs in DOS of some sort, but thinking about that, it's not likely as the disks could be NTFS ?
Anyway there may be hope of a simple solution - I am surprised it has not been incorporated already.
I will post back after testing after the weekend and thanks again for the prompt help.
Regards
