True Image Home 10.0 + 11.0: Error E00070020: archive corrupted (WinXP, Win7)! Help plz

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm struggling with a big problem. Since two months all of my backups created with True Image Home 10.0 or 11.0 are corrupted.
I have no idea why this problem occurs. In the past I never had any problems in creating backups of my hard drives. There was no hardware or major software update between!

I'm running two different partitions on my computer (Asus P5B Deluxe Board, ICH8R-Controller, 3xSATA-HDDs). The first one on Windows XP (True Image Home 10.0-build 4942), the 2nd on Windows7 Home Premium 64bit (with True Image Home 11.0).

When I'm trying to make a backup, True Image runs well during saving the data into the backup file. The verifying of the archiv afterwards ends in an error E00070020. In 2 of 10 attempts the archiv is well verified, the other 8 attempts are corrupted.

It doesn't matter how i start the backup sequence (TI boot disk, safe mode, WinXp, Win7,...) it always ends in the same problem.

When I start from the boot disk, another error occurs. Choosing the full version of True Image Home 10.0 at the start screen the following message appears and the system stops:
Acronis Loading please wait..
dhde: lost interrupt
hde: lost interrupt

Starting the safe mode from the TI boot disk, select backup, the system hang up by checking the available drives. Here I first have to go to checking archives (then TI find all the existing drives), cancel this action and go back to the backup routine. As in WinXP the backup then runs well till checking the archiv(es).

Right now, I have absolutely no more ideas how to go on.
At the acronis home page (FAQ,Forum,..) there is no hint, for my registered Versions there seems to be no technical support by Acronis (although the versions aren't expired or too old). In different posts at the forum a download "bootable media option" was mentioned, but after login on my registration page there is no option to download something like that.

Does anyone here could give me help in solving my problems. It's a really bad feeling, working all day on my PC without any usable backups.

many Thanks

And... sorry about my bad english. :)

Ich freue mich natürlich auch über Antworten in dt. Sprache. :)) Habe bisher aber halt fast nur englische Einträge gesehen.

As your verification problems are happening with different HDDs and different TI versions coupled with the fact that it all worked in the past this does rather suggest that a hardware problem is beginning to surface.
The first place to look is the integrity of your RAM modules. I suggest that you download Memtest86 + Version 4.1.
Boot from the Memtest CD that you can create from the downloaded ISO. Run the test for several passes or even over night. There shuld be no errors at all.
If there are any errors reported it is then a matter of subsitution/ replacement till you can pin down the failing module and replace it.

Can you verify if you mean TI 10 and TI 11 (the older versions) or the newer TI 2010 and TI 2011?

I would also recommend testing the RAM. A stick went bad on my WHS a while back and it caused very similar problems.

Hi and first of all thanks for your help.

Meanwhile memtest86 passed 15 hours of testing without any error. So the RAM shouldn't be the problem (hopefully).
I'm talking about the older versions (10.0 and 11.0) of TI, i haven't bought a newer one because i never had any problems using the old versions under WinXP. And buying a newer version of TI makes no sense for me. I guess, nobody will tell me for sure, that this one will work without any problemes....

Do you or anyone else have more suggestions for me?

In the meantime I will try some other backup solutions to see if the same error occurs. I really hope to find the problem, because i got used to work with TI and really like this tool.

Thanks a lot

Good your RAM is no longer the prime suspect. It is now a matter of eliminating other possible hardware problems. I suggest that you look at temperatures, voltages and frequencies of the all the components that make up the computer. There is a neat little tool that you can download from Piriform that enables a view of what is installed and provides a lot of realtime information that may point you in the right direction.
http://www.piriform.com/speccy.
The next stage would be to closely examine all the internal cable connections. In particular some SATA connections been found to be a bit unreliable.
While you have the computer case open it is a good idea to give the internals and heat sinks a gentle air blast to clear out the inevitable fluff and dust that will have accumulated.

I forgot to ask where your backup file/s are located. I am assuming that they are a common internal drive or partition thereof or an external hard drive.
In either case CHKDSK R should be run on the device. If any bad sectors show up they could be the cause of the problem. Substitution with another drive would be the best thing to try. If you are using an external drive connect it with a different cable not via an external hub but directly to a main port on the computer.

Another day of searching and testing ends...

I tried the speecy tool -> all looks fine, no errors are visible, the temperatures are ok.
I also removed, checked and re-fitted all SATA cables
There is no dust inside the pc
Today (and the days before) I saved the Image-Files on 3 differents harddisks, 1 external USB-HD directly attached to the USB port
Tried to remove all unnecessary drivers in the startup-sequence
Did tests on WinXP and Win7
Ran chkdsk /f /r on both bootable drives

In the end, there is always the same result with a damaged archiv. Maybe there is a communication (driver-) problem with the internal ICH8R-Controller an TI? But if so, why there were no problems in the past? I did no driver update between.

????

Try copying a large file (at least 1GB) from the source drive to the destination drives. Then check if the MD5 value of each still matches. I would run this test a least three times to each drive (don't just run it once).

I have the ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFi board and I used TI 10 a lot with it (with no problems). I don't think there's anything wrong with the basic setup.

Have you checked in the Windows Event Log for any errors?

Hi Mudcrab,
yep - there are some errors in the event log:

Service Control Manager, Error ID 7026, Message (german WindowsXP)
Ereignistyp: Fehler
Ereignisquelle: Service Control Manager
Ereigniskategorie: Keine
Ereigniskennung: 7026
Datum: 30.12.2010
Zeit: 21:03:16
Benutzer: Nicht zutreffend
Computer: Q9650
Beschreibung: Das Laden folgender Boot- oder Systemstarttreiber ist fehlgeschlagen: MFX
Weitere Informationen über die Hilfe- und Supportdienste erhalten Sie unter http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

At the MS page there is nothing mentioned about this error. In one german forum this error was related to missing onboard raid drivers.
Could that be the problem? How could i check this? In the Windows hardware manager everything is fine.
How should i copy and check the MD5 value?

Thanks

Is the Device Manager showing any warnings or errors on the RAID controller or any drive controller?

Are you using the latest drivers?

Quite a few programs support creating the MD5 checksum. If you don't have one, you can download the free one from Microsoft (you have to use it from the Command Prompt).

Hello,

there are no warnings or errors in the device manager.
I still have the error mentioned above in the event log. Any idea how to fix that?

For my ICH8R-Device I'm using driver version 8.9.0.1023 from 2009-06-04, haven't found a newer one at intels homepage.
The md5 checksums are ok for a 3GB Backup file copied and checked on 5 different partitions.
I deactivated the other raid controller (JMicron JMB363) via Bios -> nothing changed.
I changed the SATA port connections from all 3 HDDs -> no effect

Meanwhile I'm not sure if there is an outdated driver problem, because i have the same error running TI under Win7, which collects or shows if there are newer drivers available.

What do you think, is there any chance getting support by Acronis? Using my registration page there is no way to get to the chat or email-function. Looks like my versions are too old to get support by the vendor. :( So I'm really happy to get some help by users.

Hallo Roland Sporer

Schon mal eine BartPE CD mit den Acronis True Image plugin probiert?

Ich würde die Systemfestplatte ausbauen und durch eine andere Festplatte ersetzen, danach Windows XP neu installieren um dann wieder ein Backup zu versuchen.

http://kb.acronis.com/content/1506

Hallo,
