True Image Home 2009 to 2010 - why pay twice ?

Thread needs solution

Let's be fair and Democratic

Why did you come out in May with version 2009 and then in September you come out with the 2010 version (thanks to windows 7), but the offer did not come for the 2010, but the 2009?

Why ask us to pay twice?

Why ask us to pay for 2 upgrades in 3 months and the 'new' product costs less than the 2 upgrades?

Why this nonsense behaviour towards your 'clients' which 'regularly spend their money?

Why?

Hello Pincopallino,

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

We will do our best to answer all questions you have concerning Acronis software. Acronis True Image Home 2009 was released about a year ago in autumn of 2008, not in May 2009. Our upgrade policy is to provide free upgrade to customers who purchased the software within 30 days prior to the release of the new version of the product.

Just carry on using TI 2009. I am using it for W7 full image backups and it's working fine. I have done a restore without any issue whatsoever and I'm using 64bit.

I have to say that I'm not too pleased with that. With the release date of True Image 2010 being Sept 15 that means anyone who purchased True Image 2009 on or after Aug 16 can upgrade for free.

I bought my copy of True Image 2009 on July 28 & installed on Aug 3 so I'm missing out on a free upgrade by just over 2 weeks so you can see why I'm not very pleased :(

I realise that Faust is saying that 2009 works with Windows 7 64bit, which I'm going to install myself within the next couple of days, but an upgrade would cost me a further £23.95 from the Acronis site. The full retail of 2010 is for sale on Amazon for £30.57.

If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

That's nice of you Oleg to help out as much as you can!

However, myself as well as others are running ATI 2009 just fine on Windows 7. We have performed image/data backups and restores of same without issue. I don't understand the need for anyone with ATI 2009 to upgrade to 2010. ATI 2009 is compatible with Windows 7 unless you know of technical or feature incompatibilities. Maybe you can explain the Pros/Cons of 2010 versus 2009 for those who are thinking of upgrading to 2010.

Hello Keith,

I understand your question and will do my best to give you clear explanation.

Here are some new features and options available in Acronis True Image Home 2010:

  • Acronis Nonstop Backup - Near-CDP (Continuous Data Protection) that automatically backs up your system every 5 minutes and lets you recover files, folders or entire partitions. See Acronis Nonstop Backup in Acronis True Image Home 2010;
  • Acronis Online Backup - Back up your data to the Acrons online server. See Acronis Online Backup in Acronis True Image Home 2010;
  • VHD format support - Convert the image of your system to a virtual hard disk (VHD) or vice versa. If the vhd file is the one of Windows 7, you can boot your machine from it to test if it works fine without performing the actual recovery. See Converting TIB to VHD Files Using Acronis True Image Home 2010;
  • Enhanced scheduler - A flexible scheduler that lets you set a start date for the task and/or temporarily disable it when do not need to run it;
  • Booting from tib images containing Windows 7 - Boot your machine from an image of Windows 7 to test if it works fine without performing the actual recovery. See Acronis True Image Home 2010: Booting from VHD File to Windows 7;
  • Selective validation - Validate only the backup that you need. Earlier versions of Acronis True Image needed the whole chain of differentials to run the validation task. Now if you select to validate one full backup archive, the archive will be validated. If you select to validate one differential backup archive, both the differential and full backup archives will be validated (leaving out the differentials in between selected one and the full one).

Acronis Universal Restore is now available for home user. A special add-on Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack can be purchased separately from our online store.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you.

Thanks to everyone. This was a perfect thread to answer my question. Now I know to stick with TIH 2009 which is working perfectly well in Windows 7. For me the Acronis Online Backup might be nice, depending on how much storage is included before additional fees, but there are lots of other solutions for that.

Best to all.
