True Image Home 2009 shuts down PC during backup
I'm trying to backup a large partition (931 MB) to an external ESATA drive and the PC keeps powering down wtihout warning during the first 5 minutes of the backup process. The last activity in the log file shows the partition being locked down. I've already scanned all of my drives for file system errors and bad sectors (none found) but this keeps occuring. How do I resolve this?

I already checked that and everything is fine - even checked the CPU temp and BIOS settings which are fine as well. The PC runs for hours without problems, but as soon as I start this backup task it shuts down, so it' s definitely the software.

Is it a crash and Windows has been set to restart upon a crash? It might be that causing it.

I have the same problem - every time I back up shuts down suddenly after some minute. Only with this program, I can't use it any more. (Acronis true image home 2012 + plus pack).
Never shut's down, only with this program. It has been working properly until a week ago. I've tried uninstall and reinstall without result.

Hi Gianni,
do you experience this issue while running from within Windows, or booted from a USB key ? I have the same problem since a few weeks. Whether I backup or create an image, after maybe 5 - m10 minutes the system stops. I run from a USB key (Linux). A few minutes I tried running AITH 10 instead of 2012, same issue. I have two external hard drives, and at this time I am trying with the other drives. Something just crash the whole process, I can't tell yet what it is. I would expect an error message. Looks like the Linux environment is not that stable.

Gilles,
Any chance that the computer is overheating?

Hi Pat,
I don' t think so. I have done a few more things. I updated ATIH 2012 to the latest version, this time I was told that there are some 'errors' on the drive I picked to create an image, and that I should tick the 'sector by sector' option. This right after I ran chkdsk on my bootable drive, Windows 7 NTFS. Hum ?!?
Then today I created a bootable USB key, but this time I created a WinPE environment. Well thye image has been running for 30 minutes without any glitch up to now. My guess is that there is a problem with the Linux environment or thye Linux version of ATIH. I will post back once the image is done and I have check the integrity.
By the way, this issue occurs after the latest patch were installed. That may explain what's going on. One more thing, the drive is a Western Digital with Advanced Format.

If you suspect the computer to be shutting down during the backup, item 9 at this link may be a solution.

GroverH,
thanks for the tip, but as I said, ATIH is run from a rescue media booting Linux, so Windows 7 can't got to sleep. In my previous pots I said I would try creating the image from a rescue media running on WinPE. Well it worked. So the issue comes from the Linux environment or the Linux version of ATIH.
Acronis suuport, anything on this ?

I'm having the same problem. I boot to a rescue CD (ATI Home 1020) and start the backup to an external drive. After about 10 minutes, the computer just shuts down. There is no tib file on the backup hard drive.
I tried another external hard drive. The problem persisted.
The computer isn't hot. I ran MEMTEST for a few hours last night thinking it may be a memory issue. MEMTEST when fine for at least 3 passes. The computer didn't shut down in all that time.
I read a thread where it was thought that the issue was that True Image couldn't lock a partition. I then logged into my account here and downloaded True Image 2014 Premium boot disk. I burned the ISO and booted to it. Things were looking well for about 30 minutes. Then the machine shut down as it did before.
Any help here?

Perhaps it is the target disk going to sleep. What is the target? Is it network or what???
- Log in to post comments

The target is a USB-connected Western Digital drive.
I was able to backup each of the 3 partitions separately.

With the WD drive attached, check your Start/Programs/Western Digital/
and see if you have a WD utility file Menu listing. This utility enables you to change or remove the sleep timer
set on many Western Digital external disks. I have this feature on my "My Passport" which needed to be changed in order to keep it from sleeping.
