True Image Home 2010 Build 7046 Error

Thread needs solution

I am using True Image 2010 Build 7046 on a Windows 7 X64 machine.

I have been a true image user for several versions and like many of you I am unhappy with how the reliablity of this product has gone downhill in recent years.

Perhaps you can help me with this scenario

OK, so I start a full restore of my boot drive from within windows 7.
The computer reboots starts to load True True Image.
It gets to the screeen where the restore progress is shown for about 2 seconds after which the machine immediately reboots
After the re boot I get an MBR Error 1 and of course the machinie will not boot.

This error does not occur every time but ot happens enough to be a real nuisance.

I CAN recover the machine by inserting the emergency restore CD and restoring the boot drive from there.
Also this MBR Error 1 error never occurs when restoring using the ERD CD.

I did download both the CD and floppy programs that are supposed to fix the MBR error but neither one of them works
I wonder somtimes if the folks at Acronis really test any of this stuff or they just let us test everything for them ! The CD can't read the partition table and the floppy won't boot either. Anyway neither of these is a proper solution even if they did work, the program simply should not cause this error.

BTW I had vista on this same computer and using True Image 11 this error never occured.

Do any of you know why sometimes True Image 2010 Trashes the MBR ?

I laughed when I noticed that build 7046 was released on April 1st, April fools day ! :)

Thanks
Tom

Hello Tom,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
Actually, the recovery operation from within Windows failed, and the MBR was corrupted. Please see this Microsoft KB article on how to perform the FixMBR operation in the Windows Recovery Environment.
Please use Acronis Bootable Media to recover the image when it is necessary, the encountered issue can be fixed by using a new build of the program when the necessary drivers will be implemented.
If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.

Are you saying here that this issue will be fixed in the next build of ATI 2010 home ?

Thanks

Hello Tom,

Thank you for your response.

Are you saying here that this issue will be fixed in the next build of ATI 2010 home ?

The encountered issue can be fixed by using a new released build of Acronis True Image Home 2010, we can't guarantee that we will include the fix for your particular system without additional information about your system. In accordance with your description, the image of your system partition is required, we should reproduce the behavior in our test lab.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

I have been looking around through the knowledge base...

Is the reason I am experiencing this error caused by the fact that True Image 2010 no longer stores its recovery files in its secure zone and the fact after reboot that it attempts to find its recovery files location via absolute sectors rather than by file name ? If windows 7 has done any drive defragging at all and has moved the needed files then True Image can't find them thus producing the MBR Error 1 ?

Thanks

Tom
