True Image Home 2010 schedule randomly skips days
Hi, has anyone else seen this problem?
I have a schedule to run a backup every day at 5.05am. Apart from the random days that the backup fails (with "Login Failure: Account Restriction") it also has days where it it doesn't even try! When looking at the Task management Calendar the days in question are shown as non-scheduled task days.
I have attached captures of the Task Schedule and the Calendar.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated
Thanks, Jim
P.S. I should have added I am running version 7046

Maybe a silly question but is your machine in standby sometimes when the task is scheduled to run?

Hello,
Colin and Scott, thanks for your help.
James, let me assist you. Most likely, the issue was caused by the malfunction of Acronis Scheduler, which is a component of Acronis True Image. To fix the issue I may recommend you to update this component:
-
Download Acronis Scheduler, which is a special utility to update the scheduler service:
- Windows 32/64 bit: scheduler
-
Extract the downloaded file and run install.bat. The utility will automatically update the service;
See if the issue is resolved. If it is not, then please proceed with steps 3 and 4:
- Reboot the machine;
- Recreate the scheduled tasks.
Please reply to this thread if the issue still persists.
Thank you.

Sooo many questions!!! :-)
In reverse order...
Thanks Ilya, I'll try the update and report back.
Hi Scott, no it isn't. I have a scheduled Task that runs every morning at 5.00am to wake the system and keeps it awake until at least 5:30am. It works without fail, which I can check with Event Viewer.
Hi Colin.
>>How do you get the heading Rescheduling? I only see Scheduling on my version. Answering my question - I assume you right clicked on the task and selected Edit, correct?
I get the "Rescheduling" page, by right clicking on the task (in the "Scheduled Tasks" list) and selecting "Change Schedule".
>>What OS are you using?
Windows 7
>>Is this a disk or partition image or files and folders?
Partition.
>>Is the program installed for All Users or just your login?
All Users.
>>Has the disk which houses the archive location been attached/switched on/available on the days it has skipped?
Its an internal disk, so its always avialable.
>>Has this task been edited previously?
Probably.
>>The editing feature is a bit hit and miss, if you need to amend a task or schedule you are better off deleting the original and starting again.
I would suggest that for a commercial programme, such a condition would be deemed unacceptable, and certainly NOT a good advert for future purchasers!
Thanks, Jim

Well Ilya, I tried the scheduler update - but it didn't seem to make any difference (then again, I am not convinced the .bat file actually ran to completion - how can I tell?)
So I rebooted and recreated the scheduled task as suggested. This "seems" to have worked, in that the backup does (for now) appear to running each day. However, although only one job appears in the Scheduled Task list I get two reports. One saying the job has completed successfully and another which says a job (that appears to have no name) fails. Attached is the log from the failing job.
Any thoughts greatefully recieved!
Cheers, Jim

The 'empty' task is either a phantom task which might have been causing your problem in the first place, or it is the old task that hasn't deleted properly.
There is an Acronis utility that will delete the unwanted task.
The bad news is that it'll delete all your tasks, so you might want to just keep things as they are for the moment and see if it fails again.

Thanks Colin.
I decided that since I only had the single job defined, running th utility wouldn't cause any hardship - how wrong can you be!!!?
Firstly I discovered I couldn't complete all the steps unless I ran CMD as an administrator. It then took several reboots to get through them all - the "service install" and "service start" each neede a reboot before they would complete. However, a check of the Acronis Task page showed the sceduled task had indeed disappeared.
After another reboot to make sure, I then tried to recreate the scheduled task, but it would have none of it - generating an error when I tried.
At this point, I decided a full de-install/install of Acronis was my best bet. This too took a few install attempts - it kept telling me the install had been "interrupted" and rewinding it out. However, it finally completed after a few more reboots. I could now recreate the scheduled task. I left it to run last night and lo and behold it ran successfully.
I say successfully. The backup shows in the Scheduled Task pane as having completed successfully (see Capture_1.jpg)! The Backup file was also created. HOWEVER, I now have a single log file which says the backup failed (see Capture_2.jpg and 06_may_2010.log)!
Arggggg!
Any more direction/thoughts gratefully received!!!
Thanks, Jim

My only guess now is that a registry entry wasn't deleted and this task error lurks somewhere there.
I wondered if maybe the tasks are lurkign in more than one place - for example one install was an all users the other a single user only, but I think that's just grasping at straws.
Whilst it is understandable that people bounce up an ddown about registry entries not being entirely removed upon installation of a program, the Windows registry system actually encourages these entries not to be removed as some settings might be required again on an reinstall or upgrade of a program.
There is also a registry cleaner program that'll remove the Acronis entries, but of course you'l be starting all over again.

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the pointer. I decided to try the complete clean down process, and start again. It seems to have done the trick (at least last night's backup worked as scheduled).
So the job ran successfully, the backup file was created and a single log file was successfully created. HOWEVER, the Calender shows today (7th May) highlighted as Blue, rather than Green. Odd since the job ran successfully at 5:05:03am 7th May 2010 (perhaps its a reflection of a Hung Parliament??? ;-) )
Thanks again. Cheers, jim

Jim,
The colour won't change for 24 hours. This is in case you have multi tasks scheduled per day, the calender tracker can't reflect individual tasks only All Tasks.
I wonder what colour buns the baker shop up north somewhere sold the most of - if they're still in existence of course.

Ah yes, I can see that now. Thanks Colin.
Good grief that's going back a bit! My wife thinks it was Greggs, but we haven't heard of it for a while. However, doing a quick Google and it looks like ASDA having taken over the role (pun intented!!) :-)
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers, jim

Has anyone found a solution to this problem that is more elegant than the "Raze and Rebuild" approach? This is poor performance for a commercial program.
