True Image Home 2011 and WHS
OK - now I'm really frustrated.....
Been using True Image for some years without any problems and just upgraded to 2011. I'm trying to backup to a share on my Mediasmart WHS (as I have been doing with previous versions) and it's asking for credentials to get a connection. I'm putting in the correct username and password but it keeps giving the error that the connection is unsuccessful. I've tried all combinations of sharing/security/usernames and passwords but without success. If I backup to an external USB drive attached to the server, then no problem but I want to backup to the internal 2Gb drive of the server.
I've searched all the topics and suggestions on the forum and support pages and also googled it but nothing so far has worked. It seems this is a common problem so why is this so difficult and why haven't Acronis come up with a solution for backing up to NAS??
Anybody have a solution??
Edit - using Windows 7 btw

Have you tried using "Administrator" and the WHS administrator's password for the credentials?

I've seen WHS block a connection when this happens. I think it keeps trying to log in with the wrong info and causes the problem. I'm not exactly sure what the waiting time is or if there's a quicker way to reset it.
Hi Mudcrab - yes, both the W7 and the WHS share have the same login name. I've also tried mapping the share folder to a drive as there is an Acronis support suggestion that the share path needs to be typed in to the file name path. The previous versions of True Image seemed much simpler to set up - I don't remember having any problems with security.

Hi Mark - yes, I've tried every conceivable combination of username/password but it always comes up with connection unsuccessful.

Do you have a guest account enabled on the WHS machine?

Hi Mark - no, guest account is disabled

Hi again Mark - well, seem to have made some progress here. I enabled the guest account and gave it access to the shared backup folder - it didn't ask for a password, presumably because this is the first tim the guest account has been activated and I didn't give it a password. This is the only folder the guest account had access to. I'll wait until the backup is complete and then assign a password to the guest account and see if I can still backup using guest credentials. I suspect however, that it will be the same situation as the other shared user folders and will not allow access.
Hmmm.....

Sorry that I couldn't reply sooner - we were away visiting our daughter this weekend.
I wanted to describe the method that I use to allow the TI boot disk to access the Windows Home Server. On my WHS machine I have the guest account enabled but not authorized to do anything other than to view the shared photos, music, and videos folders. To access the folder that I use for backup, I log into the machine (from TI's boot disk) as administrator and use the WHS admin password.
I believe that if you don't have the guest account enabled, WHS will reject any login attempt from any machine that does not have the WHS Connector installed, and that would include accessing from the TI boot disk even on machines that DO have the WHS Connector installed.

Thanks for that Mark - I have seen a few other posts regarding this problem. There are suggestions that it's a Windows 7/ TI 2011 combo glitch and that the Win7 SP1(beta) fixes it but I'm not so sure so I'll just leave it as it is with the Guest account. Seems to work and backs up OK and that's the main purpose. When the Sp1 is released, I'll try it again.
Thanks again - all the best
