True Image Home 2011 backup over Gigabit network slooooow

Thread needs solution

Hi, I used to use TIH 2009 until upgrading to Windows 7. In that version backups over to my NAS didn't take that long using the default settings.

With TIH 2011 with the default settings, it took 3 hours and 15 min to do a 41.5 GB partition without using the pc or having any network traffic on a Gigabit network. Verifying the back also took about the same amount of time. I verified the problem isn't in the network by copying the backup file onto the host pc without significant delay. Is this normal? I'm using Build 6857. My PC is a brand new sandy bridge i5-2400 with 12 GB of RAM.

Thanks,

Jon

Jonathan,

When you backup or validate, launch the task manager, click on the networking tab. What is your network utilization? I have had some success increase it by disabling the offloading of the IPv4 chksum. You might want to try various advanced settings of your adapter.

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't able to succeed with your suggestion but it led me in the right direction. After isolating my NAS and connecting it directly to my pc I was able to determine that the speed issue rested in the network. I noticed that my NAS ethernet connection was not feeding a gigabit connection with the switch. I did a line test and noticed that the connection was intermittent. I repunched the cat5 jack and now all is well. Troubleshooting can be a big pain sometimes. Thanks!!!

Formerly, I was at 6% utilization and 10 MB/sec. Now I'm at 16% utilization and 20 MB/sec. Hoorah!
