True Image Home 2011 Locking up my computer

I have windows XP installed True Image Home 2011 at the beginning of March to back up my system
on a USB external 1TB drive. Everything was working well, until my USB drive filled up. The backups
failed because of lack of disk space. I then tried to consolidate some of the backups, but that didn't seem to work. The consolidations never freed up any space on the USB dirive. I changed to a custom
backup scheme that keep less differential backups, but now running the backujp locks my system up.
Crtl-Alt-Delete doesn't work. I have hard reset it. I have tried to reformat the USB drive and start again, but the initial backup locks up with about 20 mins left. It has don't this twice.

My support ran out on april 5. just about the time this started to occur.

Anyone seen this issue before?
