True Image Home 2012 crashes each time I try to restore

Whenever I attempt to restore from my external hard drive I get a message asking me to specify the location of a volume. When I click Browse to enter this the program locks up and fails to display the contents of the drive. A window labelled "Warning" opens but is blank. I have no option but to close the program, which is no longer responsive using Task Manager. I am using Windows XP.
I have uninstalled an re-installed the program a couple of times but the problem persists.
I am disappointed that having paid good money for this program that my backup is inaccessible and files which I require urgently are locked away.
