True Image Home 2012 (with Plus Pack) - Backup to TIB with all partitions

Thread needs solution

I've tried backing up a HDD with bad sectors to the TIB file and it only seems to back up the main partition, not the rest of the partitions on the hard drive (example: RECOVERY, hidden 100 MB, etc.). What options in True Image Home 2012 would I choose to back up all of the partitions on the HDD? I'd like to use the Universal Restore.

I also assume that an automatic Universal Restore can't be done in real time while cloning.

Thanks.

Did you tell ATIH to do a disk or partition backup? When creating a disk/partition backup, there will be an option to switch. If you're on partition backup, it will say something along the lines of 'Switch to disk mode' and vice versa.

Make a new backup, default is partition, so you should see 'Switch to disk mode' and should click on it. Select the whole disk (all partitions if required) and continue as normal. You may have to enable the option to skip bad sectors so it doesn't stop and wait for user input on each one, it will say something like (silent mode) next to the option.

For the MVPs and/or Acronis, you should attach the system report as I've seen it requested 99 out of 100 times.

I also don't think you can 'clone' a machine in real time, at least with ATIH. The corporate versions may be able to do such task, but not sure.

You need to perform a full disk mode backup. Switch to disk mode (upper right blue link) until you see disks and not partitions to select. Select the disk.

If the disk has errors, a proper backup may not be possible. You should try to correct the errors:

Run chkdsk /r on that drive. To chkdsk the hidden partitions, use Disk Management to temporarily assign drive letters.

Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

Thanks. Previously, I was using Partition backup, not Disk Backup. I have since then set it to Disk Backup and it seems to work as intended.

With regards to cloning with Universal Restore, I mean't while cloning a secondary drive to another drive. Explaining my question a little more: Will a Universal Restore support cloning or will it only work with a backup and restore (TIB)? It would be nice with a clone since it would save a few steps (backup to a TIB, restore from the TIB; VS clone to another HDD while automatically doing a Universal Restore).

Also, can a clone ignore avoid bad sectors like a backup and restore can?

Don't clone. It's risky. Many users end up with their original drive wiped and no clone, due to user error. Backup is far safer. Even as an MVP and power user, I wouldn't clone.

Universal Restore, to dissimilar hardware, requires the Plus Pack.

Clone doesn't avoid the problem of bad sectors on the source drive. You could do a sector-by-sector backup, but that would copy any errors to the target drive.
