Hello Michael,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your message. I will definitely assist you with this issue.

From my experience such problems are caused either by errors on the hard drive or a problem with Acronis low-level drivers that are responsible for disk operations. Please make sure that you have ran chkdsk with the /r parameter, you can check this article for more information.

I also had experience with two hard drives which gave me i/o errors. They died rather quickly after that. I would recommend to copy any important information to another location just in case.

If chkdsk does not help, please refer to this article and download our low-level driver update - version 586. Reboot your machine after the installation and try backing up again.

If you are still having issues, please get back to me with the AcronisInfo report.

Just in case, please make sure you have your bootable media standing by so that you can recover your backup any time.

I would really appreciate if you could reply in case you need additional help.

Thank you.

My old computer died. My files were backed up to an external by Acronis True Image 10. I bought a new computer that uses Windows 7. I downloaded Acronis True Image 10 to my new computer from your site. Windows 7 won't execute it because of an 'incompatibility' issue. The info I get from your Wizard indicates that even if I update to Acronis True Image 2011 Home that I will be unable to access and convert my files back to their original state and format. If this is not true then please tell me the proper procedure to get my files restored. Thank you.

Alden,

You could install 2011 and create new backup tasks.
If you need to restore 10 archives, you could do it from the 10 recovery CD.

I am surprised that upgrading to 2011 changes the 10 TIB files. If you are afraid of this, you can hide your 10TIB files in a hidden folder. After the installtion of 2011, it looks for existing archives. It won't find it in the hidden folder. Once 2011 has run its own new backups, you can unhide the folder.
