True Image just unstalled - cannot restart PC ! Help please.

Thread needs solution

Help please - just installed Acronis True Image 10.0 Home EN. Vers. 10.0.4871. PC is failing to start giving only the motherboard (Foxconn ) ‘welcome’ screen and then dying with a ‘no signal’ image. This just recycles off and on – no further progress can be made.

PC ‘was’ running fine. Dual boot XP and Ubuntu. Normally just use XP.

Acronis was given a ‘full’ installation on this drive, called for a restart after an apparent successful installation. Surprised to see a rather distorted Acronis screen appear straight away without the normal option of do I want Ubuntu or XP. Mouse movement was very irresponsive with what seemed like ‘reverse’ operation.

Could not progress with no facility for shutdown so held pc button for some six secs to force machine shutdown.

On restart the cycling above commenced with no sign of anything else.

Options on the Foxconn opening screen are :-

Press Tab to show Post Screen………. No effect.
Esc. To enter Boot menu……………...No effect.
Del. To enter set up……………………This gives me the Bios .

I have changed First Boot device to ‘hard disk’ from ‘cd rom’ but no effect.

I have tried various ‘F’ key functions to give me a different start but no effect.

Whilst I will use moderate language and say I am far from happy with what has happened I seem to be in a big mess due to the Acronis installation.

Could I please have some help to guide me on this.

Many thanks.

Did you install TI from a download or from the TI CD? If from the CD, was the CD in the drive when the computer rebooted after installation?

Have you tried doing a cold boot? Turn off the computer, remove power, wait for several minutes, return power, and boot-up. Sometimes the BIOS can get screwed up.

Does the computer boot correctly from the XP CD or the Ubuntu CD/DVD?

Thank you soooo much mudcrab..... the muddied waters may be clearing. I've not had time to check all but tried your cold boot and I have normal start up back again.
I have a cd for TI.
TI icon is there but bit reluctant to do more just yet and would appreciate advice before venturing further with it. Do I proceed as normal ??
Also may be totally disassociated but have 'new hardware' screen appeared which I do not understand. I'm siiting tight till reply.

Thankyou so far.

When you installed TI, did you create a SZ or do any other partitioning changes?

Was the "new hardware" screen an error message or just a taskbar tray pop-up message?

If you don't have a current backup of the drive, you might want to make one now.

There is also a newer build of TI 10 (build 4,942), which is one of the better builds. You might want to update to it. It should be available in your Acronis account.

Thankyou. TI was just a straight install on existing XP partition. Sorry my ignorance but SZ not understood and almost certainly not done whatever it is.

Too late tonight but I shall carefully explore this 'found new hardware ' message , will decline for the moment and get a newer build update for TI.

I'll get a system restore point set but cannot do back up just yet as this was point of TI.

If I'm still struggling I'll add another post tomorrow.

Obliged for your very consructive help so far. Might just be it will settle down.

Regards........

SZ = Secure Zone. This is a special "hidden" partition that TI can create for storing backups. When created, TI changes the partitioning on the drive. This can cause the "detection" issue as can anything else that causes Windows to detect the drive as different. That particular message isn't usually anything to worry about.

I thought you would be interested in an update. Had to reinstall two pieces of 'hardware' which Adonis had taken out.
Firstly " Intel(R) 82801G (1CH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers "

Secondly "Primary TDE Channel".

I am just horrified that these had dropped out.

My PC is only three months old, very clean and used only for photo mods. Working with it this pm it blue screened on me with a 'recovered from serious error' message being sent to Microsoft. I should have looked at error but what I have done is removed TI completely in hope that no further problems occur.

Whilst your help appreciated I think Acronis TI has pretty well screwed up my pc and I am not at all happy with the product. Also looking at all the various issues being reported in this forum I really do think this is a very bad program and should be avoided.

I shall be looking for money back... but thnkyou for staying with me.

Regards............
