True Image trial version boot CD and file splitting
I am evaluating True Image to backup my new laptop Dell Precision M6400. Currently I have two issues, and I am wondering whether they are related to the fact that I am using the trial version or they are also present in the commercial version:
1- I made a boot CD and I was able to boot from it alright, but I am not able to backup from the boot CD.
2- I made a backup of the hard drive to a USB stick, which has about 7.3 Gb free space. I am not able to make one single backup file on it, even though I input a custom size (of 7.3Gb) into the file splitting box. Every time it asks for the second volume after it fills up about 4.7Gb, even though there is still room left on the USB stick. Is it safe to make the second backup on the same media, in this case the USB stick? I mean if I have two .tib files, will they be recognized properly at restore time, or they have to be on separate physical media? Why doesn't it take the size I am inputting and create only one backup file?
Thanks.

The reason is that the usb stick is formatted as Fat32 which has a 4 Gb limit for file sizes so there is not enough room for the second 4Gb split. You will find it much easier to use a usb hard drive of adequate capacity.

Ahhh, I never knew that. I really should have! It explains all the problems I've had using this usb stick!
Thanks Dwn

You can't backup from the trial version CD. It's limited to doing restores, though I think it will also do validations. You should get a message if you try to do any procedure that's not available.

Thank you for the info. Now in the case of a split backup in two .tib files on the same media, do I still have a valid backup, or the restore would not be possible unless the two .tib files are on different physical media?

All the .tib files from the same split have to be in the same folder/drive for the restore to be done.
