True Image vs Disk Director partition copy?
Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right forum or not....but...
I have used Disk Director for all my partition move/resize/copy/backup etc. operations for a couple of years now.
I have never used True Image. My question is, what does True Image do (if anything) that a partition copy in Disk Director doesn't?
Specifically I have an OCZ Summit SSD drive and am going to update the firmware, I need to make a copy of the drive as the flashing process wipes the drive.
Is it worth buying True Image when I already have Disk Director? Is there any advantage using True Image over doing a partition copy to another drive and then back again in Disk Director?
Regards,
Mat

Gents, I purchased a new computer with a SSD and would like to partition the 256GB SSD into two partitions. I have Acronis Disk Director Suite V 10 which I have used to do all my other partitioning. It is not however recognising the SSD. Can you help? Is there anything else that I should be looking out for?

Hello all,
Thank you for your posts. I am sorry for the delay but I will do my best to assist you.
Acronis products support solid state drives with some limitations. Please check the following article that lists these limitations.
Full solid state drive support is available in Acronis True Image 2010 Home and Acronis Backup and Recovery 10.
Carl Roberts,
Can you please provide additional information regarding the issue that you are experiencing. Can you let us know what operating system you are using and does this problem occur in Windows or when using our bootable media? In case you need immediate assistance, please collect AcronisInfo report and contact our support directly.
Fredric R Eichelman II,
Can you please let us know if you are having any issues with solid state drives and if you can give us some detailed information regarding your setup. Your OS, does this issue occur under Windows or the bootable CD, what software are you using.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you.

I think you have an article on your site about how SSD alignment is not supported now. Paragon now supports this, I hope you will also soon. See OCZ forums on their SSDs, their performance really takes a hit when the alignment offset is not correct.

Hello Anton,
The issue occured when I was using the bootabe media of the Acronis Disk Director Suite V.10. I was however able to create the partition using a feature of the Win7 64-bit, which is the operating system on the computer. Is it that you are not upgrading the Disk Director Suite and suggesting Acronis True Image 2010 instead? This leaves me a little concerned as in one of the earlier posting the two programs perform different activities.
The other thing that bothers me is the fact that SSD are not fully supported. Am I correct in this belief and if so when will Acronis be addressing this current type of drive in its products?

Hello,
Let me answer your questions.
Frederic, we'll surely implement SSD alignment feature in the next versions/build of our software. I have forwarded your request to the appropriate department.
Carl, Acronis Disk Director 10.0 doesn't support Windows 7 within its environment, however, using bootable CD you should be able to partition your drives (even SSD ones). I may recommend you to try an alternate version of bootable media that you can download from your account.
With regards to your second concern: SSD drives are supported both in Acronis True Image and Acronis Disk Director, however, correct alignment is not implemented yet. As I mentioned above, our developers are already working to make this feature available as soon as possible.
Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.
Thank you.

Hello Ilya,
You appear not to have responded to me penultimate sentence and question? Is Acronis considering phasing out Disk Director Suite (as I believe it performs a different function to the other program)? The creation of the partition was not done with the Boot Media disk that Disk Directory Suite V10 created. As I have already created the partition, it is no longer an urgent matter. I however would like to know whether or not I can look forward to an upgraded Disk Directory Suite.>
Regards,
Carl

Hello Carl,
Sorry for ignoring your question.
Surely, new Disk Director will support correct partition alignment. Moreover, we've already started a public beta-testing of the new Acronis Disk Director 11. If you want to participate in this beta program, please visit this link.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you.
