TrueImageHome 2010 used to run, now will not start (launch). Can't uninstall
Windows XP PRO, SP3 and all updates installed. 2GB RAM.
TrueImageHome 2009 used to run.
I upgraded to version 2010, and it ran.
several months later I noted it had failed to run scheduled backups.
I am guessing that it was after I tested shareware Driveimae XML, and I installed Western Digital "SmartWare Software" on "My Book Essential Drive. (USB)
Now I have unistalled those programs and still...
Acronis True Image Home will not start. There is no message, no hint of it launching. There are no messages in the Windows XP event log.
On occasion I see a flash message, TreuImageMonitor has an error and must close.
Urgent! I want o uninstall and reinstall.
I can not remove / uninstall Acronis True Image Home!
In The Windows XP Add/Remove programs I see:
Acronis True Image Home
Junk Acronis TI Home
When I tring to Remove either, I get:
Add or Remove Programs (window popup)
Fatal error during installation
I want to completely remove all traces of TrueImageHome and reinstall.
How do I proceed?

After using revo to uninstall, There is still a problem. A bit of history that probably why REVO failed to clean up the problem.
When I installed Acronis TrueImageHome 2009, in the "Add Remove Programs" list, it shows "Acronis TrueImageHome" (no year reference).
When I installed Acronis TrueImageHome 2010, in the "Add Remove Programs" list, it shows "Acronis TrueImageHome" (no year reference).
When REVO performs it's product uninstall, there is no reference to suggest there is an upgrade in place. Indeed... there should be no need.
See this screen capture of the install error.
http://cdn.lts.cr/files/eaabde65c2539f82d9e9/Acronis_TIHome_uninstall-1…
"Cannot automatically install the following products since their newer versions are already installed. Try to manually uninstall these older versions.
True Image Home."
Not no year reference.
I suspect this is an uninstall problem that is an Acronis responsibility. Meanwhile, I'm out of luck and ideas.

In Revo, you have to choose force uninstall. Choose the aggressive settings, Enter Acronis for the search term.

Thanks for that. I have now performed that procedure and nothing was found.
Trying to contact support, apparently only the TrueImageHome 2009 is cataloged. The 2010 upgrade doesn't show up. I get message that 2009 is no longer supported; I have to use "Pay for incident" to get help. I politely withhold my tongue.

Hi, I recently had a problem somewhat like yours, but not exactly what you have described. If you look at my recent posts youll see how I fixed my problem preventing me from uninstalling and re installing. My solution was to disable the service "distributed link tracking" on my xp pc. It instantly fixed my problems and it has been documented before in these forums. Dont know if its your exact problem, but disabling the service wont adversly affect your pc. Good luck

That service is related to shared links and netbios links. Does not apply to my install, however I tried it anyway. It did not affect the problem.
Here is what I find; remnants still in registry that revo does not show.
http://cdn.lts.cr/files/eaabde65c2539f82d9e9/TrueImage%20remnanta%20in%…
and I attached it. I had to man handle three images to merge it into one long image.
I need to know what the installer is looking at to determine a newer version is installed. Acronis may not know that piece of information. It is probably a built in function in the Microsoft package building tools.

It did not solve the problem. It still says I have newer version installed.
FYI for those following this thread, here is console:
# This tool will help you to uninstall the following
# Acronis products from your system:

# * Acronis True Image 10.0 Home
# * Acronis True Image 11 Home
# * Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0
# * Acronis True Image 2009 Home
# * Acronis True Image 2010 Home
# * Acronis True Image 2011 Home
# * Acronis Disk Director 11 Home
# * Acronis Disk Director 11 Advanced
#
# Searching for the necessary components...
# devcon.exe component is not found.
#
# Please choose one of the following variants:
# 1. Remove Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer manually.
# 2. Proceed with the uninstallation.
#
# >
Note it says devcon.exe not found.
Note... it removed Disk Director Suite
When done, it did not fix the problem Install still says newer product is found.

My after-thought. I am still leaning toward the ide that this is a Microsoft Installer problem, perhaps caused by Acronis parameters.
My environment: Windows XP Pro with SP3
I installed "Acronis True Image 2009 Home". In the windows Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, the Icon is named "Acronis True Image Home".
I installed the UPGRADE for "Acronis True Image 2010 Home". the windows Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, the Icon is named "Acronis True Image Home". (Same name).
I wonder what the Microsoft Uninstaller is looking for when it calls up the Acronis generated routine with the Acronis supplied parameters. There have been two install processes executed. The Upgrade to version 2010 is the second one, but there there was no uninstall of the 2009 version. "Since the Add Remove Programs" icon did not change the name, but Acronis does offer free support based on the name (version), I see opportunity for confusion as the developers write code based on "requirements" that seem to be inconsistent to the Microsoft tool.
The Acronis True Image Home cleanup tool is most likely touching Acronis known registry keys. What about keys that Microsoft Installer uses? There must be something there, perhaps reference a class or related keys.
I wonder about this because the My Acronis account records show me to have version 2009 (only) and therefore I am not eligible for free support. I thought I was at version 2010. That version support perspective may affect the uninstall? (I'm Just thinking out of the proverbial box.

Now getting out of my depth, but i think you have to install devcon.exe sperately???????
- Log in to post comments
Yes, you have to install devcon separately, or you simply launch the device manager and uninstall the Acronis device from there.

Now I know what devcon.exe is. thanks!
I installed it into windows\system32 and ran the True_Image_Home_cleanup.exe again.
Devcon was indeed found this time and ran.
Reboot, and ran the TrueImageHome installer again.
Same problem. I believe the installer is looking at something that Acronis doesn't know about.
Now I am hesitant to re-install Disk Director until I resolve my problem.

Carl,
Try Jv16Power Tool registry cleaner.

I would not install disc director until you have fixed the ATI problem. Have you considered deleting the acronis registry files you referred to earlier????????

Hi,
I've run three registry cleaners already, but I still researched this one.
Without too much elaboration, I would not recommend Jv16Power to anyone.
Nuff said there.
I do not believe this is a registry cleaining problem It's a "logic" problem in "uninstall" or "removal" of product... of something the installer checks, and it aborts the Acronis install.

Hey Carl,
I am running out of ideas with your problem. You might want to post in the sticky about installation issues and contact Acronis support.
NB: if you don't mind, send me a PM telling me about why you are not happy with JVPower16. Cheers!

I've got it!
I will give more detail than would otherwise be necessary.
Apparently our uninstallers do not consider the Microsoft "Product Application" Hierarchy.
1) "Windows" is a Product; HKLM ...Software/Microsoft/windows/...
2) "Installer" is a product: HKLM ...Software/Microsft/installer/
The uninstall process cleans up "Windows" but not "Installer."
When I cleaned up the "Installer", then ATI installed.
I deleted only one key.
I attach image of the key..
Tourist information:
I had installed it originally for use of "this user only" so it was in the user's registry.
If I had created a new user, it would have installed.

Nice catch! Thanks for sharing.

Good one, But was that registry entry you deleted to fix it listed in the previous image you posted. There were certainly some "hkey_user" with the same begining listed. The image you downloaded isnt expanded enough to show, but theres a good chance it was listed there, so deleting those entries you originally showed would have fixed your drama?????????????????
At least you got it going, and I wonder how many others have drama because they installed it for 1 user. I will certainly keep this topic filed in my ever growing acronis file. Thanks for sharing
