Try&Decide's committing takes ages

Thread needs solution

Using Try&Decide in Acronis True Image Home 2010.
Started backup and after all changes i wanted to make during T&D working its sizes was 17 Gb.
I've chosen "apply after reboot" in 3 PM and after 7 hours committing progress was only 25%.
Q: should i wait next zellion hours or something going wrong ? tnx for answeers

I don't use T & D because there's a much easier and safer way to accomplish the same thing. If you want to try it, here are the steps:
1. Make a backup of the Registry - the Export feature.
2. Install the software you want to try ... if unsuitable, then ...
3. Uninstall it using Revo Uninstaller - it's better than the Windows Add/Remove feature.
4. Import the Registry that you saved in #1.

Do you mean you started a backup while T&D was running!?

The 25% is not necessarily accurate. I recommend you leave it to finish anyway.

I also recommend not to do so much work with T&D on. 17GB is an awful lot for it to commit and I'm not surprised it will take a long long time.

started backup= turned t&d function ON.

17Gb is my fault, cos' i thought it does not matter if i want to apply changes. tnx for answer - now i understand that its ok (except the size->time).

ps: 71% now :D

I'm glad you haven't aborted it!

An alternative which is completely safe (rather than what DwnNDiry mentioned, which is not safe at all) is to take a backup of any partitions, especially the system, and then try out whatever its is you want to do. If everything is ok then you simply carry on. If not, just restore the image(s) and thats it done with - and you will truly be back to where you started. Also, it won't matter how much work you have done - takes the same amount of time to restore no matter what you did!

Just in addition.

Whatever you do, always remember that reverting back by any method (discarding changed) you will lose such things as email download details which you may not want to lose. Anything you want to keep you can copy to an unprotected partition or some removable media before discarding changes or restoring.

the reason i had to backup so long time and so much data is that i used t&d while upgrading my winXP from SP2 to SP3 with blackjack & bitches. from time to time my new wifi router went down and i wasted too much time to make it work again.... while t&d kept backupin =\

thanks for advice

Hello,

bin, thanks for your help.

alx fish, let me assist you.

Please do the following to restore Master Boot Record:

Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003

Boot the computer from the installation CD, start Recovery Console and run fixmbr and fixboot commands.

(!) If the system partition was not restored to its original position, then the boot.ini file needs to be updated.

This can be done with the Recovery Console command bootcfg /rebuild

Windows Vista or Windows 7

Boot from Windows Vista installation disc, select language and keyboard or input method, click Next and choose to Repair your computer. Then you will need to select the operating system that you want to repair. In the System Recovery Options dialog box click Command Prompt and type the following:

Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
Bootrec.exe /FixBoot

If you want to completely rebuild Windows Vista Boot Configuration Data, then you should issue the following command:

Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd

This command scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista. Additionally, this option also allows select the installations that you want to add to the Boot Configuration Data store.
