Trying to backup a damaged HDD - gets to 1% and hangs

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to recover a failed HDD that will not boot.  I get to 1% remaining, with the progress bar (maybe 300mm wide?) getting to about 3mm remaining, and it stops progressing and it just hangs there.  I checked off the box that says ignore bad sections, any idea why it is not finishing?

Thanks!

Mike, unfortunately the failed HDD may be the reason why the backup cannot complete depending on how it has failed, i.e. if there are actuator issues preventing it access the whole disk surface.

I have done similar backups of failing HDD drives in the past year and typically the Backup operation (using sector-by-sector mode with ignore bad sectors) took over 12 hours to complete and a similar time to recover the backup to a good / new larger HDD (1TB) where I was able to run more tools to recover key user data.  In my case I went to bed and came back in the morning to find the operations had finished - which was lots better than watching it like paint drying!
