Trying to upgrade hard drive

Thread needs solution

Hi all.

I've done this a few times with older versions of boot media but now I'm struggling. I performed a full image backup of the old drive using TIH2012 - the image has 3 partitions - MBR, System Reserved (Dell stuff) and the main Windows partition. When I come to restore using the boot media it insists on me redefining partitions on the new drive. The new drive happens to be a bigger one i transferred from another system with a single partition.

In the old days Acronis just seemed to do it's thing - now it seems very complicated - is it just my imagination? A I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance .. Mark

Sometimes the order matters and jsut having ATI make assumptions will get one into trouble -- I think that's why they changed how it works.

Take a look at the "Recovering a disk with a hidden partition" section
http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/index.html

You don't want to change the size of the hidden partition but you can make the Windows partition any size so long as it's not too small for the partition image you have backed up.
