UEFI BIOS = Bricked $3,000 Lenovo W540 + 1 P-O'd customer

Thread needs solution

I tried to boot from my Acronis boot DVD, just to see if it would find my NAS in case I ever have to restore--you know, the other member of the backup/restore duo.

System is gone. Bricked. Can't boot. Can't even get into BIOS to try and fix things.

Lenovo/IBM support is sending me a box (cardboard, that is), and I'll get the computer back in a week or two with (they say) a new motherboard, a new factory-setup hard drive, etc.

What's up with that?

Why should I back up if I can't restore?

Hey Gerald,
I am debating buying Acronis to do a backup of my desktop so I can restore that image to my new W540 which is setup in RAID0 (two 128GB=256GB striped hard drive)... Clonezilla didn't even recognize my RAID drive so debating buying Acronis.
So did you figure out a good solution to restoring to your W540... is it setup in RAID?
