UEFI Loader fail

Thread needs solution

When I launched the system backup, the True Image asked me to restart. I restarted and got a "Runtime Error 0x10d00e: Failed to load" message when it tried to start the Acronis UEFI Loader. Cloning my internal HDD to another HDD by USB. I just spent a lot of money on this and I'm getting frustrated.  What do I do?

Did you just spend money on 2015 or 2017?  YOu're posting in the 2015 so want to be sure - if you have 2017, would be ideal to post in the correct version forum.  If you are using 2015 - is it a free version that came with an OEM hard drive?  If so, those are supported by the OEM and not Acronis - they usually are older versions (like 2015) that are heavily modified by the OEM manufacturer and don't have the latest drivers, updates or bug fixes.

That said, there are many limiting factors that can prevent booting - primarily things like the local system bios (user configured) having any of the following settings:

- Secure boot enabled (this prevents third party bootloaders from running
- SATA mode is set to RAID (lack of RAID controller dirvers in the default Linux media)
- A disk that is encrypted - encryption will lock the drive and prevent the system from being accessible

After checking these things and disabling secure boot in the bios (if need be) Please download the .iso from your registered accoutn and burn it to CD/DVD and boot from that instead.  Alternatively, you can build rescue media locally, and can even create a UsB flash drive.

Please don't clone or start a disk recovery from Windows or you may end up in trouble - using your rescue media is SAFE and will avoid a situation that can be avoided.  Regardless of the version you are using, please read this thread:  Sticky: [IMPORTANT] CLONING - How NOT to do this!!!

It is the 2015 version that I got with my Crucial SSD. The plan was to back up the system into the external HDD and then put it back into the SSD once it's installed. I'm not the best and not the worst at computers but a lot of this stuff seems way more complicated than Crucial and Acronis made it out to be.

Graham, your Crucial (OEM) version of Acronis 2015 is a free version that they bundle with their hardware sales but in principle you need to follow the same process as if this was the full cost Acronis product.

As Rob has already advised you, do not do this from within Windows - that was the reason why the warning article that Rob pointed you to was written.  We see far too many users getting into real difficulties by doing that!

Please follow the advice in the warning article - create the Acronis bootable Rescue Media, and test that you can boot from this and see your current HDD before you try to clone it etc.

Please make a full backup of your HDD before you attempt to clone it.

Use the Rescue Media to do the cloning once you have done the above.

The recommended method is to replace the installed HDD drive with the new SSD drive, then connect the removed HDD via USB using either a USB to SATA adapter, dock or caddy, then boot from the Rescue Media and ensure that you carefully select to clone from the HDD to the SSD.

When the clone is done, then shutdown and disconnect the HDD and remove the Rescue Media before attempting to boot from the cloned SSD drive.
