UEFI/GPT Backup/Restore Using Acronis 2014 with Plus Pak

Thread needs solution

I have a laptop running Windows 8.1 that uses the UEFI/GPT partition structure. I am trying to backup and resize/restore this system to a smaller SSD in order to take advantage of SSD speeds. I have backed up and restored with both the windows version of acronis and the emergency startup version of acronis. I have added the new ssd using the aconis add disk feature specifying the drive as gpt. I restore all partitions in the order in which they were on the old drive. I only decreased size on the windows partition itself, leaving the recovery and uefi disks as they were. I cannot get the restored disk to boot. I get windows 8 error code 0xc0000225 when trying to boot. The windows 8 cd will not repair this disk. Can anyone point me to something? I have used acronis for years with no problems but it has always been using mbr partition structure. This is my first experience trying to move uefi/gpt partitions.

When you backup, make sure you switch to disk mode at the point when you select the partitions, then select the entire disk.
Then put the SSD in the system and boot on the recovery CD. As you "add the new disk", make sure it is initialized as a GPT disk, then do the restore as a whole disk restore.
If the computer doesn't boot, I am suspecting that the pointer to the recovery partition is screwed up after the resize and that throws the boot process off. This happens when the recovery partition is after the C:\ partition.
If you have the original Windows installation, we can probably work around this.
