Unable to Boot True Image Home 2009 Full Version from CD

Thread needs solution

I received a PC with a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard and bought a boxed version of True Image Home 2009. I booted from the CD to take a full backup of the shipped PC before modification. The safe version boots but the mouse does not work. The full version tries to boot and then resets the PC and boots to Windows Vista. The manual says that the full version inability to boot is a 'rare occurrence' but not in my case. I don't want to install the product and use the Appendix D parameters, so how do I make the full version work. The safe mode takes a backup and verifies but I have no way of  knowing if it will  restore.

Why does the (PS/2) mouse not work?

Hello Brian,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

Please download ISO image from your account under Registered Products and create Acronis bootable disc using third-party software. ISO image is based on different loader which has more embedded drivers, it will certainly solve the issue you experience. If not please let us know.

I downloaded and booted this image:

It boots but doesn't say if it is the safe or full version.

It doesn't matter as long as it does what you want it to do.  But if your usb devices are seen then most likely it is the full version.  Doesn't it boot to a menu to allow you to choose either Safe or Full?

From what I recall there are no options for Safe or Full.  Initially you are presented with eight startup options but if you let it time out you go directly into the application.

Edit:  Safe mode is not an option.

No, the ISO version offers no options. The boxed version offers both full and safe but does not offer any option to start full with some command line parameters that Appendix D shows. I think this is a flaw in the boxed CD and those options should be offered.

I can now answer some of own questions. I downloaded the latest version (June 09). Fortunately I had a laptop to install it on and then ran the Rescue Media Builder. I could use command line options and found by trial and error that  the full version chokes on a PS/2 mouse. Once I installed a USB mouse, the full version of both the boxed CD and the Rescue builder booted fine. The full version backed up my new PC with 1GB less size than the safe version using no compression. Very strange.

So beware those who have PS/2 mice.

but .....

The June 09 update lets you build a rescue media for either safe mode or full mode but will not put them both a single CD which is pretty pathetic in my opinion.

I don't have any USB devices so I have no idea if they  are seen or not as yet.

I don't know that yet. I have no USB or firewire devices installed yet. I also don't know if it restores and I have no way of finding out. Seems from many posts that it is a crapshoot.

Brian,

Perhaps I'm not understanding your statement correctly.  This is with reference to the U.S. English version and not using the ISO file.  The ISO file does not include Safe mode.  Hopefully you are using the latest build which is 9796.
1.  Download file TrueImage2009.9796_s_en.exe and install it.
2.  Download file TrueImage2009Addons_s_en.exe and install it.
3.  With those two completed create a new Rescue Media CD.
4.  Boot to this new CD and you will have the option of selecting Full or Safe modes.

Yes,  you understood me correctly. Thanks for your reply. I did download build 9796 but did not download addons .. I did not know about those. With just #1 it did not give me both. I will try again and advise. Thanks

Brain,

I would believe that a majority of TrueImage users are using the wired PS2 mouse. I know that I am and most of my family does and none of use had a mouse issue in any of the last 3 versions.

Not sure, but it might be the new m/b's with newer technology.  If any folks have a similar issue at least they can suspect the mouse if they search this forum.
