Unable to burn bluray backup

Thread needs solution

Trying to use the bluray backup feature and I receive alternating errors. The first is that the backup just sits at "Time left: calculating" and then pops up saying that "an error occurred while writing to the file" and then if I cancel it and try again, it states that the "drive is busy" until I restart my system. It also states that my bluray drive is a CD-RW drive under "backing up to" on the status. It never actually starts burning to the disc. I've tried to letting it pull the drive tray closed trick as well and this has not helped.

I have the same issue. I can see that people have had problems similar to this in both 2010 and 2011, and although you indicate this was fixed in 2011 version, it doesn't appear to be. I am trying to write to a BD-R 25GB single layer disk. As described, first the "calculating" message - then a prompt to enter the first disk - followed by the "error" message regarding the media, as described before. I tried more than one disk, so I doubt is is media related. As was described by user1121222, ATI2012 seems to recognize the drive as a CD-RW. Windows7 does ask you how you want to use the Blu-Ray disk - can you verify what option we should select. I did try both options as bootable media and without, but I received the same error.

I have the same problem as described in the preceeding 2 posts.

Acronis shows my Pioneer BDR-206 Blu-Ray RW drive to be a CD-RW and I get the same error messages. It also "locks up" that drive such that it won't eject the disc when the button on the front is pressed.

What do I need to do to be able to backup my C: drive to Blu-Ray discs?

Lots of issue with BD in the past, looks like they have not been solved. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do. At any rate, if your backup doesn't fit on a single disk, you'd better off doing backup to USB disks. There are issues with DVD spanning backups as well.

For so many reasons, I think it's safer and better to backup to external USB hard drive, or even USB flash drive than optical media.

I just bought the ATI Home 2012 product to use on my home computer. On the outside of the package it includes both BD-R & BD-RE in the list of supported media.

I don't believe it should be considered unreasonable to expect the product to operate correctly with the specific media it says it will work with.

Is there not someone from Acronis who can address -- and satisfactorily resolve -- this issue?

I prefer to back up images to a file share and files to removable media. When I get my blu-ray writer I will will try switching my file backups to BD-RE medial through ATIH, but from what I've read I fully expect it won't work. So I'll buy another piece of software to do that I suppose.

@D. Paul Dalton
I agree with your comments and this is something that has been an issue for longer than ATIH 2012 has been around. Sadly, I doubt we'll see a resolution any time soon, if ever.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your posts. I am really sorry to read about these problems.

If you have any issues with creating backups to Blu-ray disks, please collect the following diagnostic information and contact our Support team:

1. CdRecord Log.

2. Acronis System Report.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I'm having the same problem using file backup to a bluray drive in True Image Home 2012 Build 6154. "Error Code: 0x00040003" and "Error occurred while writing the file." I'm using a LITEON ATAPI iHBS112 2 bluray drive with current firmware. I dont have support anymore as it expired last October, how can I send my log files?

Thanks!
Andy

Judging from past comments it has been about three years that people have been complaining that Acronis will not backup to blu-ray disks. I just got the latest update to Acronis 2012, and the problem still has not been fixed. Evidently Acronis believes the home user market is not to be taken seriously. Today I dumped the program and got
Paragon Backup and Recovery. It is a free program, and it DOES backup to blu-ray disks.

Version 2017, Build 5554: Same problem.  No error codes.  I was able to copy my files over to the BD-R via Ashampoo Burning Studio, so I know the hardware is okay.

PS I am posting this in the 2017 forums, since it is more revelent, there.  Sorry for the cross post.
