Unable to clone or restore hard drive

I am trying to upgrade to a larger hard drive in my laptop. I keeping hitting a dead end no matter which line of instructions I follow.

I found this link in the knowledge base this morning.

I tried it. I got an error message saying I have a single disk installed.

I have my disks installed according to the link. new drive in the laptop; old drive connected via usb cable; boot media in the disk drive.

I have tried installing the new disk using the recovery method, but it cannot see my external drive, which is a 1TB seagate.

I'm using the most current build. It was updated this morning as well. I cannot get to the build number because I have not swapped drives back around.

Any help would be appreciated.
