Unable to delete backup set

Thread needs solution

I am trying to remove and recreate a backup set that has failed. I am unable to do so the screen sits at a spinning circle that says deleting backup. I have let this sit overnight for about 14 hours and came back to the same thing. The program is locked up and I have to end the task before I can do anything else.

Is this backup contained on an internal disk? If so the disk may be corrupted so best to run chkdsk/r from an admin command prompt to check for and repair errors. ATI has problems working with disks with errors.

I have the same problem and I think it is because I deleted old increments using windows explorer. This article says that is a bad thing because the library in acronis thinks it has files that it doesn't have: https://kb.acronis.com/content/47159

I found the fix here, it's easy: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/63974 Just delete the archives.xml file and next time you open Acronis it makes a new one, but only including what is really on your hard drive. Whatever caused your problem I don't think it can hurt to remove the xml file - if you're making a new backup anyway I guess you don't need the old settings.

Back up is on an external disk. The link for the fix takes me back to this thread for some reason.
