Unable to edit settings of backup

Thread needs solution

I am on True Image 2014

Build: 6673

Sync agent version: 17,0,0,1877

On Windows 7

Today I added a new drive to my PC. Decided to add it to my existing backups. In order to do so I wanted to copy the settings from one of my existing backups to a new backup so did "Clone Settings" which created a new backup, but when i went to change the settings I got a "Failed to parse the script from file...."

Thought it was a fluke but then another backup got the same error after looking at the settings, and then another, now I'm afraid to touch the setting button to any of them. It seems I can edit the settings once, but once I save, they get corrupted or altered in a way where Acronis can no longer open them. Acronis says I am running the latest version

Oddly enough, it also renamed one of my backups that used to be "Work" to "Work_full_b98_s1_v1(1)" after it couldnt read the settings

Under more info it's giving me the Event code: 0x006400D0+0x00640905+0x00640263+0x00640298+0x00900010+0x00900004+0x00900004

I have not had any luck locating the code in the knowledge base so am posting it here to hopefully get some help.

ninomail, welcome to these user forums.

The event codes are not listed in the Acronis KB for most of these types of issues, and are only known by the Acronis developers.

I haven't see this specific type of problem reported in the forums though haven't tried to dig too deeply for this.

Have you tried to create a completely new backup task that includes your new disk drive?

If a new task gives the same type of error, then I would recommend trying a 'Repair' install of the product, which is simply reinstalling it again over the top of what you already have installed.

Thanks for your answer!

Yes the new backups seem ok, but looking at the xml file, they seem to be simpler in terms of hirearchy of the nodes so I can't be sure that once the backup ages a bit, it won't fall under the same problem.

My main concern is that I'll lose the version chains of my work files. I'm a freelance artist and the backups are there but I am no longer able to access them to keep them fresh. So while I can start new backups, I don't know how to link them to their old version chains.

If i reinstall on top, would I be able to resume the backups I've had?

Thanks again for your help.

I would suspect that the issue may be more with the Acronis Database information rather than the Script XML files.

Your backup version chains shouldn't be an issue as these would always be accessible via the Acronis bootable Rescue Media (which doesn't use the database information).

Even if you were to do a clean install of the Acronis product, you could add back in your existing backup version chains by adding in the last file of each different chain and Acronis will resolve all the other files that make up the chains.

I wouldn't try to link the new backups to the old ones - it would be better to keep these as separate tasks and therefore separate Recovery elements should that be needed.

Hmm that makes sense, I suppose I could start new backups and hang on to the old ones for 5-6 months until they've become outdated and then get rid of them alltogether.  I can't tell you how often a client will want something from an old version and it's been real easy to just go back and pull the work file from that date via the right click "Recover" menu to see all the past versions.

Would you recommend reinstalling acronis on top however if the database is the issue or will that be resolved by starting new backups throughout?

Do you think my use of the "Clone Settings" caused the DB corruption in the first place? I'll avoid doing that in the future.

Thanks again for your continued help!

If this is a database issue, then doing a repair install won't change that or correct it as it will leave the database as it is now.

What you can do is to force the database to be rebuilt as follows:

Stop all Acronis Services first, then end all Acronis programs.

In Explorer, navigate to C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ and rename or delete the Database folder you find there.

Launch the main ATIH application which will recreate a new Database folder & files, and also restart the Services and Programs.

Cloning the backup task shouldn't cause any issues, I have done this plenty of times and advised it to others to do too.
