Unable to initialize snapshot manager library - Initialisieren der Snapshot Manager Bibliothek fehlgeschlagen

Thread needs solution

Hi, I can't start True Image Home (10.0, build 7046, German version). The error code reads:

Initialisieren der Snapshot Manager Bibliothek fehlgeschlagen. (0x100005)
Tag = 0x8D5BF87C202E86DC
Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden (0xFFF0)
code = 80070002
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8B9

... which means "Unable to initialize snapshot manager library... blah blah blah... system can't find the file... blah blah blah"

I'm running True Image under Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

This is a fresh install. I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, including renaming snapapi.dll before reinstalling. The newly installed snapapi has the same creation date and time as the renamed one.

What else can I try?

Thanks in advance.

Okay, so I'll answer my own question. The issue here is that ATI Home 2010 does a really, really bad job of uninstalling itself. You have to do most of it manually.

What I did now is this:

1) Uninstall.
2) Clean out all the processes and services that will still be running even after you've uninstalled and rebooted. You'll find the culprits when you try to delete the Acronis folder in Programs (x86)\Common Files. The running processes and services will refuse to be deleted. Stop the processes in the Task Manager, then find the appropriate keys for the processes and services in the registry and delete them. (I'm not entirely sure that this step was necessary, but I wanted to do a thorough job this time.)
3) Clean out the keys pointing to the snapshot manager following the instructions in this KB article: http://kb.acronis.com/content/1620.
4) Reboot, then reinstall.

That's it. Problem solved.
