Unable to install

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I just purchased True Image Home 2013 and it's not possible to install. I already had live Support by an Acronis employee via TeamViewer. He changed some Settings in Registry and crashed my System, it wasn't possible to boot any more - the System was hanging in an endless reboot/BSOD Loop. Thank God I had a Restore Point and could restore to that Point. Not very good Support...

I recently upgraded my machine from Windows 7 x64 Enterprise to Windows 8 x64 Enterprise. It seems that there are some relicts of older True Image installations. I've run the cleanup Utility several times, it doesn't seem to help.

The error message is:
Uninstall Acronis True Image Home (Version 12.0.9608), Acronis True Image Home 2012 (Version 15.0.5060) and try again.

Can somebody give me instructions what to do? I wonder why the cleanup Utility doesn't help here. It seems to me that the Windows 8 Version of True Image is not very final - the first time I'm not convinced about this product.

Sven

Sven,

Make sure you have Admin access to programs.

Uninstall and Plus Packs you might have.

Re-install 2012 (assuming it will install).

Reboot.

De-integrate TIH if at any stage you selected to integrate TIH with Windows.

Uninstall 2012 via the install option of Remove.

Alternatively if you had no problem with 2012, 2013 should install over the top.

If you wish to use the reigstry cleaner make sure you use the 2012 one rather than the 2013 version.

I am confused a bit now - here http://forum.acronis.com/forum/35064
Pat L said use this http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545
instead of this http://kb.acronis.com/de/content/26545?nocache=1
while James F suggested to use this http://kb.acronis.com/content/34876

>If you wish to use the reigstry cleaner make sure you use the 2012 one rather than the 2013 version<
which version of the 2012-Cleaner do you mean - and what about the 2013-version????????????

Hi,

Thanks for your Suggestion. But 2012 is also not installable:
"This program has compatibility issue" box appears and I have to quit.

The registry cleanup Utility of 2012 doesn't work with Windows 8:
#
# Checking Windows version...
# Wrong Windows version detected.
# Press "Enter" to close the tool.

Perhaps I should have uninstalled TIH 2012 prior to install Windows 8.

I've only installed 2012/13 on a clean W8 install, not one where I've upgraded over W7, this might be why you are having a problem Sven.

I have had 2012 installed on W8 (Developer, Consumer and now RTM) and installed 2013 both as an upgrade and as a clean install.

Whilst it is best to use the Registry Cleaner for the version you are tring to uninstall, in your case you have no option but to use the 2013 one.

Run the 2013 cleaner and then reboot after checking that the upper filters and low filter entries have been removed as per the link Krabbe mentioned

2013 cleaner

After you have rebooted, run the 2013 installer and when you get to the install menu right click and select 'extract', then run the MSI installer. If your 2013 is an upgrade version you will need to have your 2012 seral number to hand as well.

@Krabbe

The com surrogate problem is normally down to shell extentions, as I mentioned to Sven, you should where possible use the cleanerthat is meant for that version, however, the 2013 cleaner does remove 2012 entries, but the problem is some things like filter entries are in different places and for example Acronis have renamed some devices in 2013, so the 2013 cleaner may miss the old names that 2012 will have used.

One thing to be aware of that all the cleaners will disable all Acronis products installed on the system.

Hi Colin,

thanks for your reply. I tried the cleaner several times and also removed all registry entries regarding UpperFilters and LowerFilters but I still was not able to install TIH 2013. There must have been old Settings from TIH 2010 in the System.

This tool helped me to completely remove TIH 2010: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall/
