Unable to restore back up image

I have Acronis True Image 2014, and first time I want to restore an Image, Just to ensure that it works and we find that we get a 20 figure error that acronis has never heard of and a total inability to restore the image.
Just a little background, it is on a Toshibas Laptop, quad core i7 with 16Gig ram and 750 gig hard drive Nvidia card and a number of extras and plenty of space on the backup drive 2Tb.
Am being offered Windows10 and so before I accept I thought I would take an Image in case I want to revert to Windows 8.1.
Took the latest Image and then mounted it and all is just fine in that it is readable and all checks out in comparisons and data however this time I thought I would try to restore it but as stated above the program won't entertain it Numerous reruns of the image process and a couple of days later and still no closer. At one stage the program gave an error and automatically sent the details to Acronis took me to the website where I was advised that there was no information on the error and a popup stated that I should reboot and if the problem persists I should check my virus checker. Norton 360.
So I turned Norton 360 off and tried again still no restore.
Because my product is a few months past 12month they want to be paid to support it.
I guess it's my fault I should have tried all the features first and made sure it does restore an image which clearly it doesn't and My mistake for buying a 3 computer home premium version as well. I was thinking that it was the same product as Acronis 7 which was good up to Windows XP pro and worked flawlessly and in a manner you are likely to use it in.
If anyone out there has had this issue with a similar setup and found a solution please let me know.
