unable to set backup option for email backup - argh!!!!
I am just moving over to TIH 2012 and I am having a problem setting the backup scheme while editing the backup settings for an email backup.
Currently the backup scheme is set to version chain. If I select "edit backup settings" and then select "email backup options" I get the email backup options dialog. If I make any changes in this dialog and select OK the dialog box does not close and the changes are not saved. I would like to set a custom backup scheme and also setup notifications but the settings will not be saved.
I only get this problem with the email backup.
help!

I am having the same problem. Can't set my email backup options because when you click on OK from that panel, there is no response and you have to cancel out thus losing the changes made. I am running Win7 Ultimate sp1 with Outlook 2010. Tried it with Outlook running and with Outlook not running. Using Build 6131 of both ATIH 2012 and the plus pack. Any ideas appreciated.

It's not a fix for Acronis, but Microsoft does offer a free Outlook backup tool of its own which may be of interest to some. See the Microsoft article here and the download here. Note, however, that even Microsoft's own tool cannot back up Outlook Personal Folders (*.pst files) while they are open, and they may sometimes be help open even after the main application interface has been closed.
The best answer IMO is to do "snapshot" backups that catch everything on the drive and (at least in theory) aren't affected by open file handles.

That's not the point. You can't change the backup options (not store), not only with the Outlook backup.

Understood. Wasn't really trying to make any particular point. Just offering some additional info that might be of general interest in the broader context.

Thanks for the feedback Richard. In my situation I can run the email backups manually. I just can't change the options so that the backup will run without my intervention. Specifically, I'm getting a disk read error and have to click on the ignore all button for the backup to continue. If I'm not there, the backup just stops (before it has actually started). Looking at the log, the disk read is affiliated with the G drive which is not associated with my backup at all. With neither the Outlook files nor with the Acronis files. It is however a partition on the same physical drive. As a retired software developer, I believe the non-responsive OK button is a software issue and should be fixed in a near future patch from Acronis. I did not have this problem with the prior build. 6112?

Some disk read error messages could possibly be related to file locking, I suppose. But have you run a disk check lately?
As for Acronis' failure to save backup settings, that seems to be a longstanding quirky issue in various circumstances. It's possibly related to their very strange and disjointed notions about data management, but I really have no suggestions to offer in that area except to keep bugging them about it.

I think you meant, "to keep up de bugging them about it"! (Sorry have had a humour injection this morning, it'll wear off by lunchtime).

:^D
Occasional light relief is an absolute necessity for all of us, I think.

Good one Colin ;-) I do intend to keep it visible for their support team.
I have run disk check for both partitions on that drive (G and H). No problems found. I believe there are some applications using the G drive and that could be the point of contention. I will try shutting down those applications and see what happens. Trouble is I don't want to keep them shut down permanently so it will only serve to isolate the cause of the error. Still need to get the options panel problem fixed. Haven't opened a problem ticket for that yet but will probably after the Thanksgiving holiday. When I do, I will post it here for future reference to anyone else having this problem. Just for information, I'm going to attach a jpg screenshot of the top part of the error as shown in the email backup log file. My Outlook files are all on the C drive and the backups are on the H drive. Appreciate everyone's quick responses and humor!

Sorry guys. Here is a better look at the log. This one includes the error message detail missing from the first snapshot.
