Unable to use AHI 2010 with network drive

Thread needs solution

I have 2 of my computers running AHI 2010 both connected to network hard drive but cannot do anything as Acronis insists I am trying to back up to same partition.I am trying to back up "C" drives on to network drive ("Z")I select .Drive to back up as C and target as Z but no joy.I have done same method using USB drive with no problem.

Hello phoebe,

Let me help you.

When you map a drive, it becomes mapped only under your Windows account. The Acronis product runs its tasks using the system account and so it is sometimes impossible to locate your mapped drive (especially when you are logged off).

Please use a full UNC path (e.g. \\server\share\) instead of a mapped drive.

You can also use a pre backup command to mount the mapped drive for an Acronis scheduled task:

  1. Download map.drive.txt;
  2. Follow instructions in Using Batch Files in Acronis True Image.

Please reply to this thread if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.

Thanks for that-as IT is not my profession there's enough to keep me going there for about three days.You lost me at "...Windows account" but before I bumble around anymore I take it if I can find someone who knows what the solution means the program will do what I need in the end?Back-up and be able to restore from boot on a network drive which is what it was doing to USB HD?Would the problem of the program insisting that my network drive and "C" drive are the same partition be part and parcel of the same thing?Thanks for the help-(the forum threads are generally somewhat above my level).

I'm back-where do I find "a full UNC path (e.g. \\server\share\) instead of a mapped drive."I have Computers---- router----network drive.
Microsoft mention finding a UNC and a knowledge of Visual Basic in the same breath!!!This is a bit deep for what was expected from a back-up program.

Hey Ilya-Spent a few hours rooting about after your solution--you really think the average home user of a back-up program(aka AHI 2010) has any idea what 1/ and 2/ are about in your reply (once they haven't figured out what or how to guess at a "UNC").This is back-up software not a part-time course in computer studies.
I got no choice but to chuck it-it won't do anything as all my drives are on the same partition according to it-despite the fact it doesn't see them.A mugs game-don't buy it unless you're a computer boffin.
